The skin is the largest organ in animals and humans. It is a tegument that, in the case of organisms with vertebrae, is made up of an outer layer (called epidermis ) and an inner layer (called dermis ).
In humans, the skin - from the Latin pellis - weighs about five kilograms and occupies about two square meters. The hypodermis , finally, is the subcutaneous layer that appears after the dermis.
The skin determines the structure of the skin annexes such as nails, certain glands and hair. It should be noted, on the other hand, that skin diseases are known as dermatitis and are studied by dermatology .

In addition to everything we have explained, we cannot ignore making known a series of expressions or terms that are based on the use of the skin concept that we are analyzing. Thus, for example, we find the so-called sheep's skin with which it is made clear that a specific person has a totally kind and harmless appearance although in reality it hides negative objectives or falsehood.
In the same way there is also what is known as goosebumps . With this expression, what is meant is to show that someone, due to fear or cold, reacts and has skin, and more specifically the epidermis, similar to that of said animal.
A third term or expression that we have to mention is redskin . This refers to the Indians who were indigenous to the northern United States .
Stripping the skin is another phrase widely used daily by everyone. It is used to indicate that a series of people are forcefully and harshly criticizing another. Thus, an example could be the following: “Pedro and Félix stripped Manuel's skin.”
