Petiso

The concept of petiso comes from petito , a Portuguese word used to name a short horse . That Portuguese word, which is used to refer to a “pony”, it must be stated that, in turn, it derives from French. Specifically, it emanates from the term “petit”, which can be translated as “small”.

In several South American countries, therefore, the term refers to a horse of reduced height .

PetisoFor example: “When we lived in the country, my father gave me a ponytail that became my best friend,” “On vacation my son enjoyed several rides on a ponytail,” “I'm too heavy to ride that ponytail, I better go.” to look for a bigger horse.”

The expression petiso de los mandados , meanwhile, is used to name a horse that is characterized by its docility and that, being obedient and calm, is used in the development of daily tasks.

Short, on the other hand, is an adjective that, in colloquial language, qualifies an individual of short height : “As a child I was the shortest in my grade, although in adolescence I grew a lot,” “It is difficult to play basketball being short.” , but not impossible” , “The suspect is a man of about 60 years old, short and overweight” .

One of Argentina 's most famous serial killers was known as El Petiso Orejudo . This is Cayetano Santos Godino , who in his youth murdered four children and set fire to several homes.

El Petiso Orejudo was convicted in 1914 and in 1923 he arrived at the Ushuaia Prison , usually referred to as “The Prison at the End of the World” due to its geographical location. On November 15, 1944, the criminal died from a gastroduodenal ulcer, although it is believed that his death was linked to the beatings that other inmates gave him for his bad attitude ( Godino even murdered the cat that was the prison 's mascot).

In the same way, we cannot ignore that Petiso is the name of a famous resident of the Basque Country who goes by the name of José Lejarraga (1928). He was a surveyor by profession, but if there was one thing he soon stood out for, it was his innate friendliness and his caring side. And for years he has dedicated much of his free time to visiting sick children who are admitted to hospitals.

Bringing a smile to the little ones and making them forget for a while the pain they are going through is what Petiso has always wanted, as he visited them dressed as all kinds of characters.

A great presence in the cultural and solidarity activity of said autonomous community is what this man has always had, and precisely if he is known as Petiso it is because he is quite short. Specifically, because its height does not exceed 1.56 centimeters.

In addition to everything indicated, we cannot ignore that Petiso is also precisely the nickname of a famous sports journalist from Cali (Colombia). His real name is Carlos Arturo Arango and he works in the media “Smoke Free Zone”, which is strongly focused on what football is, although it offers information on other disciplines.
