Subjection

A bolt is a door that allows the fastening of a different one.

A bolt is a piece that is used to fasten or support a different piece , forming part of some type of device or mechanism. The term derives from the Catalan pern , which in turn comes from the Latin perna .

The usual thing is that the bolts have an elongated shape and have a rounded tip and another with a nut or a similar finish that allows them to fulfill their fastening functions.

Made from metals such as iron or steel, bolts can link large parts to a certain structure. What bolts allow is to assemble and mount various panels or components to shape the structure in question.

Use of bolts

Bolts are used to assemble those pieces of furniture that are sold disassembled. These furniture are usually sold in boxes, with instructions on assembly. The boxes also include the bolts necessary for the buyer to attach the panels, which may require using wrenches, screwdrivers, or other tools.

There are different types of bolt. According to their head , bolts can be hexagonal, square, rounded and other types. Depending on the fastening mode, we can distinguish between through bolts , connecting bolts , removable fastening bolts , permanent fastening bolts , etc.

Crown

In dentistry, a post is an element that helps hold a crown.

Its use in dentistry

When we think about bolts, we fundamentally do so within the field of construction, installation or industry. However, we cannot ignore that they are also used in the field of medicine. Thus, there are so-called dental posts .

Dentists are the ones who make use of these metal pieces whose fundamental objective is to reinforce and consolidate the crowns or fillings that are made to deal with the disappearance of one or more teeth.

Specifically, these dental posts can be of three fundamental types:

  • Friction , which are identified by the great retention capacity they have.
  • Cemented , which are used not so much for their resistance but for the fact that they do not generate any type of tension in the dentin. This is a circumstance that significantly facilitates the patient's well-being.
  • Threaded . These are the ones that perhaps best retain the crowns and fillings but, on the other hand, they generate high tension that can cause cracks in the dentin area.

In addition to everything stated above, you should know other interesting facts about dental posts:

  • They are manufactured with materials such as platinum, aluminum, titanium, stainless steel...
  • Among the advantages of using these are that they are cheaper than other alternatives and that they improve the resistance of the tooth.
  • In contrast, they can cause damage to the dentin and even lead to the appearance of cracks.
  • There are several different sizes of bolts, ranging from 0.38 to 0.78 millimeters.

Other uses of the term bolt

In the colloquial speech of various countries, the concept of bolt is used in different ways. In Argentina , perno used to be used as a synonym for a sexual or intimate relationship, especially using the verb empernar ( "I want to bolt the brunette" ). This expression can be considered crude or obscene.

In Chile , on the other hand, a naive or unintelligent person is called a bolt ( “Juan is very stupid, I'm not going to invite him to the party” ).
