Perfume

Flavoring

A perfume is a product that provides a pleasant fragrance.

The substance used to give a good smell is known as perfume . This concept has its origin in the Latin per fumare , in reference to the aroma that came from the smoke in smoking (the process that consisted of causing aromatic smoke so that something smells good or is purified).

Nowadays, perfume is understood as a product , usually liquid, that men and women use on their bodies to give off a pleasant smell. For example: “My husband gave me a French perfume for my birthday,” “I take a shower, I put on perfume and I'm ready to go out,” “I don't like the perfume Carmen uses, it's too strong.”

Types of perfume

According to its aromatic intensity and concentration, it is possible to speak of perfume (more than 15% aromatic essence); eau de perfume ; eau de toilette or bath water ; eau de cologne or cologne water ; or splash perfumes .

There are also perfumes for clothes or for environments (such as car perfume or home perfume) that have the same objective as the fragrances that people use: to spread a pleasant aroma: “I bought a peach perfume for my shirts,” “Your car smells great: what perfume are you wearing?” .

Perfume is also used, by extension, to name a pleasant smell : “I love the perfume of these flowers” , “My grandmother's house had a very particular perfume, like a mixture of fruits and vegetation” , “A good chef not only "It has to seduce diners from the taste of its dishes, but also from the visual aspect and the perfume of the preparations."

Scent

Many flowers are valued for their perfume.
