Dummy

The first thing you should know is that the term pelele is considered to be a word native to Madrid. The oldest document that is preserved and in which that word appears for the first time is from the year 1800. Specifically, we are referring to a work by the Madrid playwright and poet Leandro Fernández de Moratín (1760 – 1828), known for works such as “The Yes of the Girls” (1806).

The term romper has three meanings recognized by the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) in its dictionary. The first refers to a rag or straw doll that is draped during certain festivities or that is installed on balconies.

DummyThe rompers, in this sense, are figures of people. At carnivals and other special occasions, they are manteados : that is, placed on a blanket and thrown into the air repeatedly.

The one-piece children's suit that children wear to sleep or while they stay inside their house is also called a romper. This is a full-length garment , usually made of plush or cotton .

The baby, when wearing a romper, is covered from the feet to the neck. Depending on the model , it can be fastened at the back or in the front and it is common for it to also have buttons in the crotch so that parents can change the child's diaper easily.

Rompers are usually made with light-colored fibers. Although some are plain, they usually have various images sewn or embroidered on them, such as flowers , vehicles or animals .

If many parents dress their babies in rompers it is because they consider that these clothes bring with them a series of important advantages. Among those we can highlight the following:

-It is very comfortable for the little one, who has absolute freedom of movement with it.

-Helps parents make sure their baby is completely warm.

-It also has in its favor the fact that it is very easy to put on and take off.

-It makes it significantly easier to change the baby's diaper. And it is not necessary to completely undress it. You will only need to unfasten the hooks that the romper has incorporated at the bottom, in the leg area.

-It is made with materials that are very respectful of the baby's skin. Hence they do not irritate it or create rashes of any kind.

-More and more companies specializing in baby clothing are launching rompers on the market that can not only be used to be at home but also to go out.

The RAE also includes a colloquial meaning of wimp, which can be used to name a useless or stupid individual . A wimp, in this framework, is someone who is not known for his intelligence or wisdom.

For example: “I can't stand Elsa's boyfriend: he's a wimp who only says rude things,” “I was walking when a distracted wimp took me in front of me and made me fall,” “I don't feel like meeting that wimp, but I must do it since it is an order from my boss.”
