The first thing you should know is that the term pelele is considered to be a word native to Madrid. The oldest document that is preserved and in which that word appears for the first time is from the year 1800. Specifically, we are referring to a work by the Madrid playwright and poet Leandro Fernández de Moratín (1760 – 1828), known for works such as “The Yes of the Girls” (1806).
The term romper has three meanings recognized by the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) in its dictionary. The first refers to a rag or straw doll that is draped during certain festivities or that is installed on balconies.
The rompers, in this sense, are figures of people. At carnivals and other special occasions, they are manteados : that is, placed on a blanket and thrown into the air repeatedly.
The one-piece children's suit that children wear to sleep or while they stay inside their house is also called a romper. This is a full-length garment , usually made of plush or cotton .

The RAE also includes a colloquial meaning of wimp, which can be used to name a useless or stupid individual . A wimp, in this framework, is someone who is not known for his intelligence or wisdom.
For example: “I can't stand Elsa's boyfriend: he's a wimp who only says rude things,” “I was walking when a distracted wimp took me in front of me and made me fall,” “I don't feel like meeting that wimp, but I must do it since it is an order from my boss.”
