Pedicure

The concept of pedicure is not part of the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ). In any case, it is common for it to be used as a synonym for pedicure : foot care .

Pedicure, we can establish, has its etymological origin in Latin. Exactly it has been formed by joining the noun "pes, pedis", which can be translated as "foot", and the verb "curare", which is equivalent to "cure" or "take care of".

PedicurePedicure or pedicure, therefore, is the treatment of disorders that affect the feet , such as nails or calluses . The notion also refers to procedures that are carried out for aesthetic reasons .

The pedicure expert is called a pedicurist (or pedicurist , if it is a woman). Their work consists of treating skin conditions on the feet and beautifying this part of the body, including the nails .

Cutting and filing toenails are two of the most frequent actions of a pedicure. Nail painting is also common. On the other hand, if the presence of a fungus is detected, the specialist may indicate antifungal treatment .

Many people resort to a pedicure or pedicure service, especially in summer. And in the heat they wear sandals and flip flops more, so they will want their feet to look really radiant. So, for example, they will want their nails painted and the usual thing is that at that time of year they choose colors such as red, in any of its shades, as well as nude or even white or those that incorporate several colors at the same time.

Beyond the nails, pedicure focuses on calluses (hard skin ). In this framework, the session may include the use of pumice stone and various exfoliating and moisturizing substances to soften the skin and revitalize it.

Regarding the origin of pedicure we have to establish that it is really ancient. Thus, it is considered to date back approximately 4,000 years. Specifically, it is already believed that in Babylon people who belonged to the noble classes had certain gold items that they used to show off a perfect manicure and pedicure.

Of course, an important step in this sector occurred around the year 3,000 BC Yes, because, apparently, that was when nail polish was shaped in China. And what's more, depending on the color, it came to indicate in people the social class to which they belonged. Along these lines, in Ancient Egypt it was established that those who had their nails painted red were those of the highest social class. And this would be the case, for example, of Cleopatra.

At a general level, it can be stated that a standard pedicure session begins with the removal of nail polish, if any. The feet are then placed in a tub of hot water to wash them and soften the calluses . Once this is done, the pedicurist begins to cut and file the nails and clean and soften the skin on the sole of the foot and heel, eliminating dead cells. Finally, after applying a protective polish to the nails, coloring is done.
