Medicinal pills are obtained from the compression of a constant volume of particles. In this way, the pills have a large storage capacity and offer greater security to the patient when taking the necessary dose indicated by the doctor .

Types of medicinal pills

Tablets can be coated tablets (to protect the paste from moisture and air), uncoated tablets (obtained by simple compression), multilayer tablets (successive compressions allow several superimposed cores to be obtained) or effervescent tablets ( obtained by compressing a granule of effervescent salts).

Among the pills that are most talked about in our current society we find, for example, the well-known morning after pill . This is an emergency contraceptive pill that is taken by a woman who has had unprotected sexual relations and fears that she may have become pregnant. In this case, said medication works as a prevention system and can be taken between three hours after the sexual encounter and up to five days after it.

Health professionals warn that it should only be taken in an emergency situation and never on a regular basis since this pill has a series of side effects that are not pleasant for women. These include vomiting, headaches, insomnia, abdominal pain, dizziness and even fatigue.

Not only for these reasons it is not recommended to abuse this pill but also because although it prevents an unwanted pregnancy , it does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases . These can only be avoided by using condoms .

Candies

Pills can be candy.

a treat

Other pills are those made of paste composed of sugar and substances that are pleasant to taste, such as lemon pills , mint pills or coffee pills .

In these cases, the pills are candy . Their consumption, health professionals indicate, should be limited since they usually contain excess sugar.

Other uses of the term pill

In addition to all of the above, we cannot ignore the fact that there is a colloquial expression that uses the term pill that concerns us now. Specifically, said adverbial phrase is “at full speed.” When you use it, what you are doing is making it clear that someone is going at full speed or that a task is being carried out with force, at full capacity and with total efficiency and power.
