Package

cardboard box and knife

Shipping of products by mail is usually done in packages.

The term package , which comes from the French word paquet , has multiple meanings. The first meaning recognized by the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) refers to the well-prepared packaging or package of one or more elements .

Transportation or delivery of products

A package can be a container used to transport or deliver a product . The concept refers to both the packaging and the content . For example: "I already bought my son a birthday gift, I just need to prepare the package" , "Every time I go to the mall I return home with three or four packages" , "It seems like someone left a package in the theater door..."

Postal shipments

In the specific case of postal and courier companies , packages are boxes that include the recipient's name and address on a label. In this way, thanks to the logistics and delivery system, these packages reach their destination: «Yesterday I received a package from my aunt, who lives in New York: she sent me some technology magazines that are not available here» , «I bought a new phone online and the next day I received the package at my house without any problem" , "The post office should deliver the packages in a timely manner" .

Sending packages by postal services is usually used for objects and products that exceed the dimensions of a letter, that is, a few folded sheets of paper. It is not simply about the size but also the weight and fragility of the contents, which requires a box instead of an envelope, and greater protection against potential bumps and falls.

Given these differences, it is logical that sending packages is more expensive than sending letters and often requires the presentation of an identity document or a declaration of the amount of the contents. Just like letters, packages can also be sent by certified services, including a tracking number and insurance to cover eventual loss or theft.

Product Set

A package can also be a set of products, services , benefits, etc.: "In the port market they offer a package of ten preserves for 500 pesos" , "The package of measures that the president will announce this afternoon has as its main beneficiaries: freelancers» , «The cable TV company offered me a premium channel package at a promotional price» .

Among the advantages of purchasing a package of products versus an individual one are the possibility of obtaining an interesting discount, the convenience of having everything you need in a single transaction, and the savings on packaging materials. Packages, in this framework, can include a certain number of units of the same product or a combination of several that are related by theme.

beer package

Selling several products in a package is usually cheaper.

In the first example it is understood that the price of the ten preserves together is lower than what we would pay for all of them if they were not part of a special package. Here we can see one of the advantages that we mentioned in the previous paragraph. The second sentence makes a somewhat different use of this term, since it is not about material objects or transactions, but about measures that the government takes to address a problem; We talk about a package because they all go hand in hand, they are part of an indivisible initiative.

Television or streaming channels are also usually sold in packages, which are usually aimed at different age groups, topics of interest or simply the desire to have more or fewer channels available. Premium packages typically include the latest and most exclusive content.
