Pampas

Plain

A pampa is a plain.

Pampa is a concept that comes from the Quechua language and can be translated as "plain" . The first meanings of this term recognized by the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) are associated with a people originating from the American continent who lived in the central region of what is now the Argentine Republic .

By extension of this meaning and by similarity to the territory that these aborigines inhabited, the flat territory that lacks trees and dense vegetation is known as pampa. For example: "I would like to have a house lost in the middle of the pampas to live in peace" , "We have traveled through the American pampas for two weeks" , "This type of deer is a typical animal of the pampas" .

The pampas as a natural region

It is known as the Pampas plain , the Pampas region or, simply, pampa , a natural region shared by Argentina , Brazil and Uruguay , characterized by a wide steppe with a high level of humidity and a temperate climate. Thanks to the climatic and geographical conditions, the Pampas plain is an area of great fertility in which an immense amount of food is grown.

There are many administrative or political divisions that receive the name pampa, both in Argentina and in other countries: Pampa Alta ( town in the province of Santa Cruz , Argentina ), Pampa (city in Texas , United States ), Pampas (capital of Tayacaja , Peru ), Pampa Aullagas (municipality of Oruro , Bolivia ) and others.

La Pampa , on the other hand, is the name of an Argentine province whose capital is Santa Rosa . It is one of the least populated provinces in the South American nation, with just over 315,000 inhabitants.
