Presentation

A speaker is someone who expresses himself in public.

A speaker is a subject who expresses himself publicly , usually through some type of speech or dissertation . Latin is where we can say that the etymological origin of the term is found since it comes from orator , which is the result of the sum of two components of said language: the verb orare , which can be translated as "to speak publicly" ; and the suffix -dor , which is used to indicate "agent" .

For example: "The biology conference included a Brazilian speaker who explained the consequences of climate change in the Amazon rainforest" , "The last speaker of the night will be John Kappablanch, a British economist" , "The audience was fascinated by the speaker, who appealed to humor on several occasions .

The speaker's strategy

The speaker, to achieve the effect he desires on his listeners, must master the art of oratory . This discipline involves various techniques that move or persuade the audience .

The speaker's strategy will vary in each case, since sometimes he may prefer to focus on the dissemination of information, on other occasions he may want to encourage the action of the listener, etc. Suppose a person reads a speech about the anniversary of an institution. As a speaker, you most likely intend to report certain specific data (dates, names). If, on the other hand, an individual must provide a motivational talk among employees of a company , his objective will be to generate a change in each listener.

Issues to consider

Many studies and research have been carried out with the purpose of establishing what qualities and characteristics a good speaker must possess. In this sense, we can say that these are the ones that are considered fundamental in this regard:

  • It is essential that you take care of your personal hygiene: that is, that you are clean, combed, with your nails cut...
  • No less important is that you are dressed in the most appropriate way for each occasion.
  • It is also considered essential that you be in good physical health and display a positive mental attitude.
  • From the point of view of intellectual qualities, you must be characterized by having a good memory, being imaginative, being sensitive to the situations of others and having initiative.
  • When it comes to moral characteristics, it is considered that a good speaker must be sincere, honest, loyal, consistent and punctual.
  • It is also key that you vocalize correctly, acquire the appropriate tone and rhythm, and adapt your vocabulary to the audience you are addressing.

The studies carried out, analyzing all these characteristics, have shown that some of the best speakers in history have been Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Gandhi and Nelson Mandela .

Religion

An orator can be a preacher.

Speaker in the religious field

The notion of orator is also associated with prayer in a religious sense. An orator, therefore, is one who makes a request and, by extension, a preacher.

«Father Manuel was a tireless orator, who spent up to eight hours a day praying the Rosary» y «All the members of this congregation are speakers dedicated to communicating with God» son oraciones que muestran esta acepción.
