In medicine, an operation is a surgical intervention.

Originating in the Latin operatĭo , the concept of operation refers to the act and result of operating (a verb that describes the performance or execution on a living organism of multiple healing acts). The operation involves implanting, removing, amputating, sewing or reestablishing organs, body parts or tissues . For example: "My father needs heart surgery to survive," "I got hurt playing soccer and the only option I have left is meniscus surgery."

In the medical case, we find a large number of operations that have become the most frequent in an operating room . These include appendectomy, biopsy, cesarean section or coronary artery bypass.

Other uses of the term operation

At a general level, operation is understood as the realization of something: "A political operation has left the socialist leader without a place in the cabinet," "My boss is furious about the press operation against the company."

In the field of commerce , an operation constitutes a negotiation or allows naming the contract on securities or merchandise, as occurs with stock market operations .

In computing , a program or software performs operations that are specified as part of an instruction to be carried out by a computer . Instructions, therefore, are made up of logical operations that are transformed into actions after their execution by computer equipment.

The notion in mathematics

In the field of mathematics , however, operations are known as the group of rules that make it possible, based on one or more quantities or expressions (understood as data ), to find out and obtain other figures or structures (which are called results ).
