The material or intellectual production of the human being is known as work . The term is also used in reference to creation from an artistic or scientific point of view.
Dramatic , for its part, is that belonging to or related to drama . This concept can refer to the representation of a story with actors and dialogue or to the narrative that challenges the audience based on sensitivity.
What is a dramatic work
A dramatic work , therefore, represents episodes through dialogues between the characters . Its origins date back to Ancient Greece , when these representations were rituals directed to the deities. Among the first playwrights we can mention Aeschylus , Sophocles and Euripides .
Dramatic art later spread to Rome through Seneca , Plautus and other authors. Only in the 11th century did this artistic modality resurface in several European countries, with works that were performed in select places (such as universities or churches).
Dramatic works finally reached theaters and, in this way, to the people in general. The most common discursive forms of these works are dialogue (between two or more characters), monologue (a character expresses his thoughts alone) and soliloquy (expression out loud to an indefinite interlocutor).
Classification according to gender
Currently, dramatic works can be divided into various genres, such as comedy (with content that seeks to generate laughter from absurdity or exaggeration), tragedy (which includes a crisis), melodrama (aimed at moving the viewer). and didactics (encourages learning and reflection).
It is important to note that the people who write this type of works are called screenwriters or playwrights. At the same time, these works are totally different from other types of narrative works in that they are written with the purpose of being represented, which makes them extremely particular: in themselves they may have little literary value, since they acquire it by be captured on stage. The actors bring the script to life by contributing their voice, their gestures and an appropriate interpretation of each of the characters that appear in the story.
Among the most famous dramatic works in the history of literature are "The Phantom of the Opera", "Romeo and Juliet", "Macbeth" and "Othello".
The dramatic work as a subject of study
In Spain, specialized institutions where teaching in theater studies and interpretation is provided are known as Dramatic Art schools . In these centers three specialties are offered, which are: Interpretation, Scenography and Stage Direction and Dramaturgy.
Depending on the place where each of these specialties is studied, it may have different orientations; That is why it is advisable to be clear about the type of work in which you want to specialize in order to choose the right school.
The specialization in Interpretation prepares those people who want to become actors or actresses , training them in all the useful aspects to be able to develop any type of role and giving them expanded knowledge in the subject.
In Set Design, students learn everything about preparing sets to work in theater and film. They are also received with knowledge about the work of costume designers.
