Definition of

None

The concept of none comes from the Latin phrase nec unus , which can be translated as “not one” . The aforementioned Latin phrase came to replace the word “nullus”, which was the one used until then to say “none”.

It is, therefore, an indefinite adjective that is often used as no by means of apocope .

NoneNone o none pueden usarse para aludir a la nonexistence of what is expressed por el término al que modifica. Por example: “There is no dish that I like in this restaurant”, “No supermarket employee offered me any help”, “There hasn’t been a concert in this theatre for months”.

As you can see, neither allows you to indicate that what is mentioned does not exist . Returning to the first of the previous examples, the allusion to the fact that “there is no dish” that the speaker likes in the restaurant indicates that, of all the preparations offered, there is not a single one that he likes.

The idea can also refer to the fact that nothing is noticed or detected about something : “The truth is that I don't feel any pity for Roberto” , “There's no point in continuing to argue, we're not going to come to an agreement” , “I'm not happy about having to see María again” .

Beyond its use as an adjective , none also acts as an indefinite pronoun to denote lack of existence : “Last night I made three cakes but, since the children were hungry, there are none left” , “None of my colleagues defended me against my boss's unfair accusations” , “The coach is not happy with any of the team's players and that is why I would ask the club's directors to bring in several reinforcements for the next tournament” .

Another important fact about ningún nunca is that it is never used in the plural and nadie is very rarely used in the plural.

In addition to all of the above, we cannot ignore the fact that the term in question has been used on a large number of occasions to give shape to titles of all kinds of cultural works. A good example of this is the book “Ninguno de nosotros volví” (None of Us Will Return), which was published in 2020 and is written by Charlotte Delbo.

In this story she tells of her own experience in a Nazi concentration camp. Her story begins in 1942 when she was arrested for having been part of the Resistance in France. After that arrest she was taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp where she lived with 230 French prisoners, of whom only a total of 49 survived.

We also cannot forget the film “None of the Three Was Called Trinidad”, which was released in 1973. It is a Spanish film, directed by Pedro Luis Ramírez and starring actors of the stature of Daniel Martín, Fanny Grey and Margit Kocsis. It tells the story of three unique Western gunfighters who will see their paths cross with those of a particularly delicate young woman.

Finally, there is also the song “Ninguno se monta”, which is performed by Darell.
