The state of a body while it changes place or position is known as motion . When a body leaves one place and begins to occupy another, it can be said to have moved. The concept of movement, however, has other meanings: it is known as the development and dissemination of a doctrine , or its alteration or commotion.
Literary is a term that comes from a Latin voice and is linked to that belonging to or related to literature . This term (literature) is the art that uses language as a means of expression and is linked to poetics, rhetoric and grammar.
What is a literary movement
It is known as a literary movement , therefore, the trend that brings together writers who share a common style or objective. These movements develop during a specific period of time and can be limited to a specific region.
The literary movement can be a creation of a group of authors who wish to be part of a group and who recognize themselves as members of something shared. They can even write a manifesto that sets out the principles of the movement in question.
In other cases, the literary movement is an invention of critics who, upon noticing common characteristics among various writers, group them into a certain category. This sometimes leads the authors themselves to deny their membership in the movement.
Some examples
Throughout the history of literature there have been hundreds of movements that brought together various authors and proposed an aesthetic and a way of approaching specific writing. All of them were characterized by proposing a well-defined aesthetic that allowed the creation of various authors to be assembled.
Among the most important literary movements are magical realism and futurism . Perhaps one of the most notable movements that has given us the most to talk about was surrealism or superrealism, promoted by the French author André Bretón .
Surrealism, a literary movement of great significance
Although over the years the bases of this movement have been confused, believing that it was a mere literary movement with a particular aesthetic and interests, surrealism should be defined as a spiritual movement since it proposes the approach of the creator. to art from a point of view that escapes rational creation in itself.
This means that a person who is attracted to surrealism tries to connect with their spirituality to feel part of the universe and thus manages to explore a space in which they themselves would be a kind of emissary that comes to externalize the thoughts and ideas of the spiritual world, of that space where we connect with nature.
Among the tools that helped superrealism to achieve its realization, the most important was undoubtedly automatic writing. And here again we must make a point: automatic writing was far from being a way of writing what the authors came to mind, it was produced through meditation , in a state of trance in which the author connected with his spirituality and the universe and wrote what he felt and perceived in that state. For this reason, the images that appear in surrealist writing tend to be abstract and highly symbolic because they are created in a state similar to the one we reach when traveling through the dream universe.
It should be noted that many of these movements transcend literature and also have manifestations in other areas of art , such as painting or music. Returning to superrealism, it has reached artists from different fields precisely because of its determination to transcend art itself.
