A model is a woman or man who is dedicated to displaying clothing , makeup or hairstyles in advertisements and fashion shows.

Originating from the Italian term modello , the concept of model has various uses and meanings, as can be seen in the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) .

One of the meanings refers to something that is taken as a reference to try to produce something similar . In this case, the model is an archetype . For example: "Tell the designer to follow Johnston's model to create the new packaging" , "Taking Da Vinci's machine as a model, a company created an amazing airplane" , "Do you have a model on which I can base the form?"

Moral quality and design pattern

The model can also be symbolic. In the field of fashion , a model can be a type of clothing with certain particular characteristics or a person who is dedicated to exhibiting clothes in parades and advertising campaigns: "The Spanish designer presented three models created with ecological materials" , "Valeria Mazza is one of the most important models in history" .

In this case we can establish that there are many types of models depending on the type of clothing they are specialized in. Thus, for example, we can talk about underwear or lingerie models, sportswear models or bikini models. And all this without forgetting that there are also the so-called supermodels.

These models are characterised by the fact that they are extremely famous worldwide, that they work mainly in haute couture and on the catwalk, that they model for the best designers of the moment, that they are followed by a multitude of people when they appear on the covers of the media and that they have astronomical salaries for each job they do. In this sense, among the most famous supermodels are Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Gisele Bündchen and Cindy Crawford.
