Merchandising

NBA

NBA merchandising is very popular worldwide.

Merchandising is an English term that is not part of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) dictionary. The concept is used to name the licensed product that is usually sold with the backing of a brand , a logo or an image .

Merchandising is the product that represents the licensed item or that uses licensed images with the aim of boosting sales through the attraction generated by the brand or character in question.

Examples of merchandising

A white T-shirt with Mickey Mouse 's face on it will sell much more than a plain white T-shirt of the same quality. Similarly, Ferrari fans will buy all kinds of merchandising from the Italian company for collection purposes.

For example: “A store has been set up in the shopping centre that sells official Harry Potter merchandise” , “Disney pop idols are the perfect business as they make millions of dollars a year from selling merchandising” , “I would like to acquire the license for NBA products to offer merchandising in the city” .

Products

A branch of marketing is called merchandising.

Promotional items

In this same sense, it must be stated that, on many occasions, this type of product is used to promote the presentation of a film, the launch of a record or the launch of a new product from a company in the most effective way possible. Specifically, in these cases, T-shirts, key chains, pens, mugs or dolls are often used.

Not to mention that, for example, it is very common for singers and music groups to bring their own merchandising stands at concerts. In this way, attendees at these events can also take advantage of the opportunity to take home a souvenir of the evening, such as banners, photographs signed by the artists or T-shirts.

Merchandising as a branch of marketing

The notion of merchandising is also used to name the branch of marketing whose objective is to increase profitability at the point of sale by stimulating demand.

Merchandising, in this sense, includes various techniques that aim to present products or services in the best possible conditions so that they are attractive to potential buyers. The intention is to attract attention and influence purchasing behaviour in favour of certain items.

For the different companies and businesses that are clear that in order to improve their results they need to launch a merchandising campaign for a specific product, it is essential that they first know the pillars that it should have:

  • It is essential that the products are located in the business in a space that is not only visible but also perfectly accessible and spacious.
  • The item in question must be priced competitively compared to other brands.
  • Points of sale must be made lively and attractive.
  • It is also essential to motivate the consumer to purchase, through attractive prices or by using gifts.

Taking these criteria into account is how optimal results will be achieved with respect to the sale of the product in question.
