Mediatic is an adjective that allows us to refer to that which belongs to or is related to the media . A means of communication is an instrument that allows a communication process to be carried out. In this sense, a telephone is a means of communication.
In the case of mass media (also known as mass media ), the instruments allow communication between multiple senders and receivers. The telephone is interpersonal, but it does not allow mass communication like the Internet, television , radio or newspapers do.
Media concept
The notion of media, therefore, is especially linked to these mass media. It can be used in a physical or symbolic sense. A media or multimedia group is a company subdivided into several media outlets. Grupo Clarín (owner of the newspaper Clarín , the television channels El Trece , Todo Noticias and Volver , radio Miter and other media) is an example of a media group.
Media groups control much of the information and can achieve a monopolistic position. The owner of these groups can spread their version of reality in multiple media, leaving little room for other worldviews.
popular characters
The concept of media is very common to name certain characters who achieve popularity in the media due to their scandals and controversies , but who do not stand out for their artistic talent or have a stable job. These are individuals who, for different reasons, end up participating in television programs dedicated to studying the private lives of famous people with a magnifying glass to generate controversies.
According to the characteristics of each culture, the requirements for a person to become media are different, but in Western countries such as Spain, Argentina, Italy, the United States and Peru, to name a few, these characters usually coincide in their lack of education, in their bad manners and in the special attention they receive from millions of people, who cling to their images as if they were enlightened beings, when they are nothing more than puppets of the media.
It should be noted that not all media figures lack talent or special skills: some of them go through a period of success in their youth and later fail to maintain their place in the world of entertainment. However, this does not justify that they end up revealing secret entertainment romances or participating in false discussions and orchestrated fights in front of millions of people, every afternoon .
The media bias
The inclination of certain mass media to manipulate the truth to obtain news that responds to their own beliefs and convictions is known as media bias ; It is an unbalanced and dishonorable way of carrying out journalistic work, and it occurs when there are underlying economic, political or social interests . Among the known types of media bias are the following:
* ethnic : tends to favor nationalist or regionalist issues;
* business : ignores the publication of certain political campaigns, news and advertisements, in order to favor business interests;
* social : usually distorts the truth to improve the image of a particular socioeconomic class, which is usually the upper class;
* political : leans towards a political party or a certain position, and seeks to favor them by all possible means.
Media bias is a phenomenon that has been poisoning journalism for decades, and despite attempts to achieve total neutrality and balance in the presentation of information, it is almost impossible to get rid of this tendency. Although in some cases these are attitudes that seem involuntary, the professional preparation of a journalist includes the search for objectivity when investigating and publishing news.
