MaritimeThe Latin word maritĭmus came to Spanish as maritime . This adjective is used to describe what is linked to the sea : the set of salt water that covers a large part of the surface of planet Earth .

Maritime transport , in this framework, is the system that allows the transfer of objects and people from one place to another through the sea . This transportation is possible thanks to the boats that ply the waters and the ports that allow the departure and arrival of boats, in addition to other resources and infrastructure.

Maritime transportation is the most used for international commercial operations. Whether in bulk or in containers, many goods are carried from one country to another on ships. It should be noted that this type of transport is also usually used to carry out cabotage operations.

On the other hand, World Maritime Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of each September. The day was established by the United Nations General Assembly with the objective of valuing maritime transport and promoting its sustainable growth.

Each year, the International Maritime Organization proposes a theme for World Maritime Day, which serves to reflect throughout the day. Some of the most notable from 2011 to 2019 have been piracy, the sinking of the Titanic, maritime education, the legacy of shipping, and the importance of women in the community .

The concept of promenade is used in Spain to designate a series of public transition spaces between land and water that are built in urban areas with different styles and functions. Although all their aspects, both functional and aesthetic, depend on political, legal, cultural, economic, social and urban issues, they are generally built to protect urban areas from water in emergency situations.

It receives this name in Spain, while it is called malecón in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador, and coastal in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia.
