Margin

Before entering fully into the meaning of the term margin, we are going to proceed to know its etymological origin. In this case, it must be emphasized that it derives from Latin, exactly from "margo, marginis", which can be translated as "edge".

The notion of margin can be used in the masculine ( the margin ) or the feminine ( the margin ). The first meaning mentioned by the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) refers to the edge or end of something.

Among the words that can function as synonyms for margin, in addition to those already mentioned, we also find shore , edge, side, border, limit, side, edge, edge, performance, difference and even benefit.

Margin, on the other hand, is the white space left on a page. Margins can be found on the left, right, top and/or bottom of a sheet.

A text usually develops in the central sector, leaving the margins free. However, especially in manuscripts , it is common for some notes to be included in the margins: clarifications, reminders, etc.

Within the framework of economics and commerce, the profit obtained when selling a product is called margin. To know the margin, you must subtract the production cost from the sales price . If 10 pesos must be invested to make a pair of pants and the garment is then sold for 100 pesos, the producer has a margin of 90 pesos per unit.

Within the field of statistics we have to emphasize that there is what is known as the margin of error. This is a term used to indicate the percentage of random sampling failure resulting from the completion of a survey or poll that has been carried out.

If this term is very important, it is because it determines the level of confidence offered by the results of the aforementioned research.

Margin is also called the area or opportunity for an event to occur or an action to be carried out: "The team no longer has a margin for error" , "The government must understand that there is no room for a new adjustment" , "I think we have room to modify the project."

There is also expression outside the law. What this indicates is that someone is acting without complying with what is established by current legislation in a place.

Likewise, we cannot overlook the existence of the television series "On the margins of the law." It is of American origin and was broadcast on the FX Networks between 2002 and 2008. It revolves around everything that happens in a Los Angeles police station. It won several awards, including an Emmy, and its cast of actors was led by Michael Chiklis, Glenn Close, Forest Whitaker and Catherine Dent.
