Sleeve

Manga is a term that has different meanings according to its etymological root.

Specifically, we can emphasize that when this word derives from Latin, exactly from “manica”, it can be translated as “sleeve of clothing”. A word that was formed from the sum of two lexical components of said language:

-The noun “manus”, which is synonymous with “hand”.

-The relationship suffix “-ica”.

SleeveSleeves can cover part of the arm or the entire length of the limb. There is also sleeveless clothing . For example: “It's cold, I'm going to wear a long-sleeved T-shirt,” “My grandfather gave me a short-sleeved T-shirt that has a photo of Lionel Messi on the front,” “For the party I'm going to wear a dress without sleeves.”

Precisely, we cannot ignore the existence of the expression “A good time, green sleeves.” This is used to mention that something that was highly anticipated occurs when it is no longer useful.

This expression has its origin in the Holy Brotherhood. And within that were the green sleeves, who dressed in that color and who were gang members who were in charge of arresting and imprisoning criminals. It has gone down in history that on many occasions these agents arrived at the scene of the crime when the criminals had already committed it and had already fled.

Sleeve is also the name of a tube used to administer or aspirate a fluid. In the field of gastronomy, the sleeve is a utensil with a spout: “Once the cake is ready, we will finish the preparation by making meringue flakes with a sleeve” , “With the help of the sleeve we must add cream to the cake” , “I need a sleeve to decorate the birthday cake” .

A sleeve, on the other hand, is an articulated tunnel , a passageway or a walkway : “The visiting team has not yet appeared through the sleeve, but the home team is already on the field” , “Just when we were about to enter the sleeve to board the plane, they informed us that the flight was cancelled.”

In several South American countries , a group of individuals are derogatorily called manga: “I am not going to negotiate with a bunch of criminals,” “The directors of this club are a bunch of thieves.”
