Backpack

Backpack

The backpack is also known as a "backpack."

A backpack is called a backpack . The term refers to the bag or bag that, thanks to the straps it has, is carried on the back to transport supplies or other types of items.

Transport of supplies

In general, the idea of a backpack refers specifically to the backpack of a member of the armed forces . Backpacks, in this sense, are used by soldiers to carry different objects that they need in their campaigns or activities.

The backpack has certain advantages over other accessories for transporting goods. Firstly, its location on the body: the fact of being able to carry it close to the back is very beneficial for our mobility , because it leaves the front part completely clear and without obstacles to move our arms. In addition, it does not block our vision, something extremely important when it comes to war tactics.

On the other hand, we have the question of the weight of its content : our healthiest posture must compensate for the weight of all our extremities and centralize forces at a point that keeps us balanced. Although when standing or walking we tend to form a 90-degree angle with respect to the ground, we also lean slightly forward so as not to fall backwards. Therefore, carrying the backpack on our back requires us to compensate for its weight with a greater inclination .

So that the provisions contained in the bag are kept in good condition, we have different compartments , either fabric pockets or rigid divisions in which the most fragile objects can be protected. In addition, if necessary we can also include containers that insulate against cold or heat, to carry liquids and foods that may decompose or change state if they spend a long time outdoors.

The Venezuelan backpacks

In Venezuela , macuto is a cylindrical basket that is made from bitter cane (Gynerium sagittatum). These backpacks, equipped with a handle, are used to carry groceries.

In Venezuelan territory, on the other hand, Macuto is a town that is part of the La Guaira state . It is a parish located next to the Coastal mountain range , whose historic center is located near the beach .

Macuto , precisely, is famous for its beaches. This tourist destination has hotels of different categories, numerous restaurants and an important infrastructure to serve its visitors. In addition to the sand and the sea, the mountains are another great attraction of the region.

Bag radio

The Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ), finally, includes the expression radio macuto in its dictionary. This colloquial phrase refers to a fictitious radio station, from which rumors, gossip and fake news are spread.

The idea of a radio bag would have emerged in the Spanish Civil War . Its origin would be associated with the lies that were spread in the trenches regarding the advance of the enemies with the purpose of demoralizing or confusing them.

Soldiers backpack

«Radio Macuto, a thousand births per minute»

As we mentioned in a previous paragraph, it is common for soldiers to carry backpacks to transport supplies, so in its physical appearance this accessory is very characteristic. In this expression, it is used to symbolize them , as if we were saying "the soldiers' radio", "those who carry backpacks".

An interesting fact is the motto that this gossip system represented: " Radio Macuto, a thousand births per minute ." The dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy defines the term parida with more than one meaning, although in this case we are interested in the following: "simplicity, foolishness, nonsense, foolishness." In other words, saying a parida is not speaking meaningfully , not saying coherent or true things.
