Macro

Insect

Macrophotography is a technique that is applied when what is portrayed has a size equal to or smaller than the camera sensor.

Macro is a compositional element that comes from the Greek language and that indicates something that is "big." It is, therefore, the opposite of micro ( "small" ).

The prefix macro allows us to form various concepts, such as macrophotography (the technique that is developed when what is being photographed has a size that is equal to or smaller than the dimensions of the electronic sensor), macrobiotic (a form of nutrition that aims to increase the well-being of the person) or macroeconomics (the theoretical branch that studies the global behavior of the economy, analyzing all the goods produced, the state of employment, income, etc.).

It is important to emphasize that in the case of the aforementioned macrophotography, so-called macro lenses are used, which are those that are used to focus most precisely at a very short distance and that offer natural-size enlargements as a result.

And all this without forgetting that there are also supermacro objectives that are characterized by having an appearance or hallmarks similar to those of microscopes and that do not have a focusing ring.

Likewise, there are also the so-called false macros, which are those that appear in many digital cameras and are presented as elements to achieve an enlargement of approximately 50%, when in reality they do not achieve it.

Macros are used in spreadsheets.

The concept in computing

In computing , the word macro is used to refer to the macroinstruction , which is the sequence of instructions stored to enable the organized execution of an order. This means that a macroinstruction allows a single command to trigger a sequence of several instructions.

A macro can be understood as a complex instruction that is composed of several simpler instructions. It is possible to store a macro in the software itself in which it is executed, either using a button or a certain key combination.

It should be noted that the software is also made up of a set of instructions. However, it differs from macro instructions in that the execution of macros is carried out sequentially and there is no possibility of establishing a branch.

The sequential tracking of macros allows you to simplify tasks and save steps. For example: a macro with the instruction to delete a record from a database can be "called" from another instruction, which will save time for the programmer and the user.

Macros in a spreadsheet

One of the programs where macros are most frequently discussed is Microsoft Excel, which is software that is used at a business level primarily to be able to develop and work with spreadsheets. In this application, the term Excel macros is used to refer to the programming code that is made using the VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) programming language.

Thanks to these macros you can create new functions or automate various program tasks so that they can be carried out simply with a simple click. And all this without forgetting that, in the same way, they allow you to create new applications and expand the solutions that Excel presents through new solutions or tools.

Programmers use macroprocessors to abbreviate certain fragments of their programs and be able to use these abbreviations as many times as their task requires.
