Intercede

Talk

Interceding is an action that consists of intervening between two parties to facilitate understanding.

Interceding , from the Latin intercedĕre , is the action of speaking on behalf of someone to free them from a problem or to provide them with good . For example: “Could you do me a favor and intercede with Dad? "I want him to lend me the car tonight and I can't convince him," "Don't worry, I'm going to intercede so that the company manager rescinds the sanction." "The mayor promised to intercede with the company with the intention of avoiding the layoffs.”

By interceding, a person tries to obtain a benefit for another person. It may be a solidarity action or a behavior that seeks a later reward . If a teenager wants to get his father's permission to go out dancing at night and asks his mother to intercede, she will help him without seeking anything in return. A different case is that of a man who intercedes with his boss to hire his cousin, but then asks his relative for a percentage of his salary.

Intercede to promote rapprochement or understanding

In the same way, there are many other actions in daily life that require someone to intercede between two parties so that a point of understanding and rapprochement can be reached. Thus, for example, it is common that when two people from the same family have had a problem and have stopped talking to each other, another member of the family dedicates themselves to interceding to get them to sit down and talk, to resolve the conflict and to normality returns.

In groups of friends there are also times when intercession is required. In this way, when two or more of them have gotten angry, it is normal for the rest of the gang to take that action to get them to reconcile and for harmony to once again be the dominant note.

Action in entities or organizations

The action of interceding can also be developed in a more complex way, involving organizations or entities. The government of a country can intercede with the UN to request that the sanction be lifted against a neighboring and friendly nation.

In this sense, we would have to state, for example, that in recent years the aforementioned United Nations Organization has been asked to intercede on behalf of the political prisoners that exist in Venezuela .

Religion

In religion, interceding means placing yourself in the other's place.

Intercede in religion

For religion , to intercede is to put yourself in the other's place . Priests, in this sense, dedicate their lives to intercession as they pray for and for their neighbors. Whoever intercedes, therefore, acts as a link between man and God .

In the field of religion we have to state that one of the most important figures that exist in the case of the Bible for his work of interceding is none other than Moses. And this prophet had the difficult mission of ensuring that the people of Israel were not subjected to what was the harsh, complicated and horrific process of slavery that Egypt imposed. Furthermore, what he propagated and what he fought for was to achieve the liberation of Israel.
