Immemorial

ImmemorialImmemorial is an adjective that is used to describe something that is very old ; Due to its great antiquity, there are no memories or records of when it began or emerged . That is, there is no memory of its beginnings.

For example: “The problems between both nations have existed since time immemorial” , “We are facing an immemorial conflict that has already cost millions of lives” , “These people maintain an immemorial friendship” .

The expression immemorial time is common in different contexts. For the law , immemorial time is not established by witnesses or reliable documentation . It is a time, therefore, that goes beyond records and memory. In a similar sense, an immemorial possession is one whose duration transcends man's memory.

The phrase also usually appears in literature , sometimes in the plural: “From time immemorial, elves populated these lands,” “There was an immemorial time when giants dominated this region,” “The war began in time immemorial and never again.” It stopped: people no longer remembered what it was like to live in peace.”

The King's Immemorial Infantry Regiment No. 1 , meanwhile, is a military unit that is part of the Spanish army . It is the oldest permanent unit in the world.

Monarch Ferdinand III of Castile was the creator of the King's Immemorial Infantry Regiment No. 1 in 1248 . At that time it was called Banda de Castilla and later, throughout history , it changed its name on many occasions.

The creation of the Regiment took place after the taking of Seville and the name that Fernando III of Castile initially gave it is " Band of Castile." It is worth mentioning that it has changed its name more than once over the centuries; For example, at one time they converted it into a third (a Spanish military unit noted for its resistance, which existed at the time of the House of Austria) and called it "Morados de Castilla".

ImmemorialWhen the wars in Flanders took place, on the other hand, the Immemorial Infantry Regiment received the nickname "The Brake", which is used even today. The Marine Corps , an elite amphibious unit that is part of the Spanish Navy, was founded with the participation of many soldiers from this regiment, in the year 1537. As a curious fact, this marine infantry is also the oldest worldwide.

In 1965, the Immemorial Infantry Regiment became part of the DOT I Infantry Brigade and today provides its services to the Army Headquarters , which is located in the Buenavista Palace , in Madrid. Its motto is "I raise this colony to stop the enemies of my Crown" and its main objective is to provide security and support to the Palace in everything it needs for its proper functioning.

Other functions include the conservation and maintenance of the private rooms and official rooms of the Buenavista Palace, as well as the heritage effects that are stored in these spaces. It also has the mission of protecting the authorities when they require it and of rendering the ordinance honors that the municipality of Madrid entrusts to it (in exceptional cases, this task may be required in other municipalities).

Regarding the official clothing of the soldiers of the Immemorial Infantry Regiment, we have on the one hand the regulatory uniform, which is the most used, but they are also instructed to wear some period ones, such as the one the regiment used during the reign of Alfonso XIII or that of grenadiers from the beginning of the 19th century.
