Graft

The concept of graft comes from insertus , a Latin word that translates as "introduced." A word that, in turn, derives from the Latin verb "insertare" which can be translated as "introduce" or "put one thing into another."

The term has various uses depending on the context .

Specifically, we can establish that among the synonyms of graft we find words such as insertion, fixation, implantation, implant, bud or cutting.

GraftA graft is called the portion of a plant that joins another that is already established , both growing as a single organism . The graft must have at least one bud that is welded to the rootstock.

Grafts serve as a propagation method : a fragment of a plant is taken and moved to another place, where it continues to develop. This way it is possible to promote the growth of various species , especially in unfavorable terrain, since it makes use of the greater resistance of the foot being used.

For the graft to adhere correctly, it must be inserted into a plant of the same genus or one that is very closely related. Otherwise, the vascular union that is required for the specimen to grow as one will not occur.

Among the advantages that come with using the grafting technique in the field of agriculture, we can highlight that it helps to renew old trees, that it gives the possibility of reproducing fruit trees that offer quality products and that have high productivity. This without overlooking that it facilitates tasks such as pruning or harvesting fruits and even allows you to perfectly reproduce what becomes a mother plant.

Among its disadvantages is that, for example, premature deaths may occur.

In the field of medicine , on the other hand, a graft is a portion of living tissue or an organ that, with aesthetic intent or as a repair for an injury, is implanted in the body. Placing a graft involves the development of a surgical procedure.

The transfer of tissue can be carried out from one sector of the body to another or even from one individual to a different one. The blood supply is not displaced, but another blood supply arises at the implant site.

In this field we have to point out that in recent years hair grafting has become very fashionable. Exactly among men, this type of hair implant has grown considerably with which they manage to cope with their baldness, regardless of the level it already has.

This type of transplant can be carried out through different techniques. However, one of the most requested and most advanced is the one called the FUE Technique. This consists of the extraction of the focular units of the person in question, using microscalpels, and then later the preparation and implantation phases are carried out.

Skin grafting is one of the most common. When a person suffers a major burn, for example, the damaged skin can be removed and new skin grafted in its place.
