An indication is a sign.

The concept of indication , originating from the Latin indicatĭo , refers to the act and consequence of indicating (that is, of pointing out something through signs and indications). The word also refers to the signal that serves as a mark or leads to focusing attention on a certain thing.

For example: “I didn't understand the agent's instructions well and I ended up getting lost,” “The coach gave an instruction to the striker to play close to the line,” “With a slight indication, the boss ordered the suspect to be locked up.”

Indication in medicine

For medicine , an indication represents a valid reason to carry out a certain medical procedure or surgery, provide a medication or use a test . Typically, these indications are regulated and authorized by professional associations or state organizations. The opposite of indication is contraindication (a condition that increases the risks when using a medication or drug).

In this case, we can also emphasize that there are two types of contraindication. Thus, first of all, there is the so-called absolute , which is called this way because it establishes a firm prohibition on the use of a treatment in a global manner.

And secondly, there is what is known as relative contraindication , which receives its name from the fact that it is determined and positioned against the use of a certain treatment due to the circumstance of what occurs is an increase in the relationship between risk and benefit.

Stop

On the streets, signs are used to inform motorists.

The PGI

The so-called protected geographical indication (generally identified with the acronym PGI ), on the other hand, is the name of a product that has a specific origin and whose value or quality is associated with that place of origin. Generally, this indication is based on what the region or town is called.

The most common example of a PGI is Roquefort , the cheese produced in the French region of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon and often used to name all blue cheeses.

Indication traffic signs

Notices that inform drivers about certain matters of interest are known as traffic signs . These signs have a blue background and have white elements.

When talking about them, it must be established that there is a broad typology of them, which has led to the development of a clear classification of them:

General indication signs , such as those that indicate the beginning of a highway or highway.

Service signs . What they do is warn and inform the driver that services such as repair workshops or first aid stations are available on that road.

Lane signs , whose clear function is to provide known information regarding them. Thus, among these are those of lanes that are reserved for certain vehicles based on the speed that they can or should reach.

Orientation signs . Within this category, another classification is established that divides them into confirmation signs, pre-signaling, road identification, direction, location...

The term in sport

In sports , cues are orders or instructions that coaches give to players in the middle of a game.

Through the indications, changes in tactics, location on the field, etc. are indicated.
