Incident

Unrest

Disturbances that occur during marches and demonstrations are often referred to as incidents.

The first step we are going to take to be able to thoroughly analyze the term incident that concerns us now is to determine its etymological origin. In this sense, we would have to explain that it is a word that comes from Latin, and more precisely from the word incidens , which can be translated as "what happens during the development of a matter."

The fact that it has this meaning is due to the fact that the Latin term is composed of the following three clearly differentiated parts: the prefix – in , which is synonymous with “inwards”; the verb cadere , which is equivalent to “fall”, and finally the suffix – nte , which means “agent”.

What is an incident

An incident is something that happens in the course of a matter and changes its future . The term, as we said, has its origin in the Latin word incĭdens . For example: “Dr. Scott was on his way to the party when a sudden incident altered his plans,” “After the incident, the employees returned to the office and continued with their usual activities,” “The bank closed its doors due to an incident in the cashier area.”

The fight or dispute between two or more people is also known as an incident: “The match was suspended due to incidents in the local stands” , “Serious incidents were recorded in a demonstration demanding justice for the murder of a minor in Villa Santa María” , “When I tried to enter the stadium, the incidents began and I had to leave.”

Conflicts and unrest

Economic crises and specifically the measures carried out by the governments of different parties to confront the problems usually give rise to a multitude of incidents around the world.

Thus, for example, in the case of Spain, cuts at the health or educational level have led thousands of people to the streets of cities throughout the country and some of these demonstrations, due to the attitude of some individuals who take advantage of the tumults to generate conflicts, have led to incidents of some seriousness.

Legislation

In law, an incident is a dispute linked to the central procedure, although different.

Incident in law

For law , an incident is an issue that differs from the main issue of a trial , but is related to it. It can be said that the incident is an accessory dispute to the main judicial procedure , which the judge or court must resolve through an interlocutory ruling or an order.

The challenge of evidence, the challenge of the judge or a witness and the request for postponement of the process are some of the incidents that may arise during a trial.

The incident can be resolved outright (when the judge decides without hearing the counterparty since the incident has no links with the claims of the parties or is untimely) or after a hearing of the parties .

The notion in optics

In addition to everything stated above, we would have to emphasize that within the field of optics the term in question is also used. Specifically, we talk about what is known as incident lightning.

This is a concept that is used to refer to the part of a ray of light that is included between what the object itself is and the place in which it is reflected.
