Magnet

Magnetism

A magnet attracts or repels magnetic bodies.

A magnet is a mineral in whose structure a pair of iron oxides are combined and which has the peculiarity of generating attraction in other elements of iron , steel or, to a lesser extent, other types of magnetic materials . The origin of the term is found in the French word aimant .

The magnet has a magnetic field capable of attracting or repelling other magnetic bodies. Matter presents, inside, movements of electrons stored in atoms . When this movement is oriented in different directions, the effect is canceled. On the other hand, when all those small magnets are in the same line, matter becomes magnetized.

According to experts, the most powerful force of attraction of a magnet is located at the poles (as the ends are known). Each magnet has a pair of poles (one that is positive and the other with a negative charge ): if they are identical, the poles reject each other, while if they are different, the phenomenon of attraction occurs.

Classification of magnets

Magnets can be classified in different ways according to their characteristics. A mineral that has magnetic properties is called a natural magnet , while an artificial magnet is an object made of a ferromagnetic material to which the magnetic property has been transferred.

A permanent magnet , meanwhile, is one that retains the acquired magnetization even when the temperature changes or encounters external magnetic fields. On the contrary, a temporary magnet ends up losing these properties if the cause that generated the magnetism in question is interrupted.

Magnetism

The horseshoe magnet is the most common representation of these elements.

Its importance in engines

An electric motor uses a magnet in its operation. These devices transform electrical energy into mechanical energy thanks to the magnetic fields produced in their coil .

Made up of a stator and a rotor , they can be used in an electric vehicle, a water pump, a telephone, a fan or a hard drive (hard drive), to name a few possibilities. These motors are powered by an alternating current source or a direct current source, as appropriate.

It should be noted that certain electric motors are reversible: by functioning as a dynamo or a generator , they can convert mechanical energy into electric current . Hybrid cars usually use this type of engine.

Symbolic use of the term magnet

In a symbolic sense, the concept of magnet is used to name something that attracts the will or captures the attention . Such magnetism, with its force of attraction or repulsion, is not associated with the laws of physics.

For example: "Video game consoles are a magnet for children" , "The promotion was a magnet and the business soon filled with customers" , "I feel that Clara has a magnet that constantly attracts me" .

Catchment

The idea of a magnet can be used symbolically.

The notion in Islam

When the term has its origin in the Arabic imām , it refers to the person who is in charge of leading the Muslim prayer , standing in front of the faithful so that they follow their prayers and movements.

In this framework, the imam can also be a religious, spiritual or political guide within the Muslim community.

The Iman model

Iman , on the other hand, is the name of a Somali model who was married to the late British singer David Bowie .

In the decades of the 70s and 80s was when this woman who had the privilege of having been one of the first black top models had her greatest professional success. However, her career has not only revolved around the world of the catwalk, as she has also worked in the field of acting in both film and television.

The concept in literature and music

In the same way, we cannot ignore that "Imán" is also the title of one of the novels by the Spanish writer Ramón J. Sender . It was in 1930 that he published this work that brings us closer to one of the most important episodes in the history of Morocco . Specifically, it tells us about the colonial war that took the country as a stage and does so through its protagonist, Viance , who is a young man who is part of the army of 200,000 men who crossed Africa at that time.

It is also worth highlighting that this term is also the name of a rock group from Andalusia that was created in 1976 and that would disappear four years later. A brief career in which, however, they exerted an important weight within the musical panorama of the moment.
