Unlimited

The adjective unlimited , which derives from the Latin word illimitātus , allows one to qualify that or that which lacks limits . A limit, in turn, is something that prevents passing, advancing or leaving (it can be an end, a border, a stop, etc.).

UnlimitedFor example: “His coaches consider that the player's potential is unlimited,” “The telephone company presented an unlimited plan with free calls and messages,” “A ruler having unlimited power is never good.”

Among the words that can serve as synonyms for the unlimited term that concerns us now, we can highlight indefinite, infinite, imprecise, indeterminate, incommensurable, innumerable and even inexhaustible. On the contrary, among its antonyms we find words such as determined, defined or limited, for example.

Take the case of an agency that offers cars for rent . The company offers two options: pay for the kilometers traveled or choose an alternative with unlimited mileage . Whoever opts for unlimited mileage, in this framework, pays a certain amount and can use the car to go everywhere they want and travel any distance without having to pay any extra charge.

Suppose that, in a certain organization , the statute states that the president has an unlimited mandate . This means that whoever becomes president of the entity holds the position for life, since periodic elections are not held. He can only leave office, therefore, if he resigns. Popes have unlimited mandates of this type.

In addition to all of the above, we cannot ignore that in the field of mathematics the term unlimited that concerns us now is also used very frequently. Specifically, it is used to refer to both operators and sets and even functions.

Thus, for example, we come across the fact that unlimited functions are those that are characterized because they do not have a minimum or maximum value of “x”. On the contrary, an unlimited set is one that is identified because what is its lower limit and/or its upper limit are not finite.

Telephone companies usually sell unlimited plans that allow you to make calls, send messages and consume data without restrictions. These plans have a flat or fixed rate: you do not pay per consumption. Broadband Internet access from a computer has been unlimited for many years: the user can browse one, five, eight or fourteen hours per day and will pay the same subscription.

In the same way, we cannot forget the fact that there are different works that have the term in question in their titles. This would be the case, for example, of the publication “Unleash Your Unlimited Power”, which was presented in 2016 and is written by Anthony Robbins and Joseph McClendon III. The subtitle of this work is “Take control of your life now and move towards your greatest dreams.”

Likewise, there is also the work titled “Unlimited Arcanum. The Cosmere Collection” which was published in 2017 and was written by the writer specializing in the fantasy genre Brandon Sanderson.
