Before entering fully into the meaning of the term illegal, we are going to proceed to know its etymological origin. In this case, we have to emphasize that it is a word that derives from Latin, specifically from “illegalis”, which is the result of the following lexical components:
-The prefix “in-”, which means “no”.
-The noun “lex, legis”, which is synonymous with “law”.
-The suffix “-al”, which can be translated as “relative to”.
The concept of illegal is used to refer to what is contrary to what is established by law . That which contradicts or does not respect what is established by legislation , therefore, is illegal (or, in other words, is not legal).
For example: “The Conservative Party candidate promised to solve the problem of illegal immigration,” “Driving in a car without insurance is illegal,” “Former Argentine president Carlos Menem was convicted of illegally selling weapons to Croatia and Ecuador.”
In the same way, we cannot ignore that there is a musical group that goes by the name of Ilegales. He is a native of Asturias (Spain) and began his career in the 70s, specifically in 1977. It is led by Jorge Martínez and it must be emphasized that this band became a benchmark in the 80s.
Among his most significant songs are “La pasta en la mano”, “Juvenile revolt”, “New times, wild times” or “Europe is dead”.
In the cinema we find different films that have the word that concerns us now in their title, as would be the case of the 1955 American feature film “Ilegal”. Lewis Allen is the director of this film, starring actors of the stature of Edward G. Robinson, Nina Foch, Hugh Marlowe and Jayne Mansfield, among others.
It tells the story of a lawyer who, after having sent an innocent man to the electric chair, enters a spiral of self-destruction after which he decides to return to practice as a lawyer for clients with low morals and honor.
Illegal sales are considered to be those commercial operations that are carried out in violation of any regulations . Illegal sales range from the marketing of illicit products (such as narcotics) and items that do not go through mandatory controls or pay the corresponding taxes, to the offer of stolen merchandise.
Suppose a person purchases clothes wholesale and then resells them on the street, placing a blanket on the street and displaying the clothes that way. This seller does not pay any tax or provide invoices to buyers: he is therefore dedicated to illegal sales.
Illegal immigration , on the other hand, refers to the migratory movement of individuals that takes place without respecting the legal requirements of the host country . If someone enters a State through an unauthorized border crossing and without any type of documentation, they will be considered an illegal or irregular immigrant.
Illegal work , finally, is that which takes place outside the legal market. An informal employment relationship, without any type of contract or registration, generates illegal work.
