Grid

The Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) links the term grida to the jumping insect that is also known as a cricket . Precisely for this reason it is established that its etymological origin is found in Latin, specifically in the word "grillus."

The verb grill , on the other hand, refers to what the cricket does when it sings or, in a symbolic sense, to go crazy or crazy.

In addition to all the above, we cannot ignore that the verb grill is also often used within the field of gastronomy. Specifically, it is used to refer to a cooking method in which food, mainly meat, is prepared by placing it on a grill that receives dry heat, through the use of charcoal.

Fish and vegetables can also be prepared using this method, which ensures that any food not only has an exquisite flavor but is also very juicy.

GridHowever, there are other more frequent uses in colloquial language. Starting from the English language words grille or grid , the idea of grid is used to refer to a grid , a fence , a net , a trellis , a grid or a grill .

Grid, in this framework, is used in the field of media to name the programming of a station or channel. For example: "The experienced journalist is the figure of the new grid presented by the state channel" , "Due to the resignation of the announcer, we have a position to fill in the morning of our grid" , "I love the Radio San Martín grid" "I think their programs are excellent."

The programming of a musical or artistic festival and the order that the channels occupy in a TV system are also called a grid: "Coldplay will head the Lollapalooza festival grid" , "The producer has not yet defined this year's grid" , "The cable company modified the channel grid and now I don't know where they broadcast the NBA games."

In this way, by having a lineup of top-notch artists, any festival will be more successful and, therefore, bring together a greater number of people. Thus, for example, a festival that had performances by figures such as Alejandro Sanz, Beyoncé, Rosalía, Madonna or the Rolling Stones on its schedule will become a true phenomenon.

In the same way, we cannot ignore that the term grid is used with other meanings in different corners of the world. Thus, for example, in Mexico it is common for it to be used to refer to a political activity carried out by someone with the clear purpose of benefiting their party or obtaining some type of personal benefit. That is to say, it is a political activity that, among other things, is marked by a lack of honesty.

In the field of motorsports, finally, the starting grid or starting grid refers to the positions occupied by the competitors at the time of the start. This grid is defined from the qualification tests: the driver who achieves the shortest time starts from first position.
