Crack

Fissure

A crack is a fissure or opening.

A crack is an elongated gap that occurs in a solid body. This opening or fissure occurs when two materials are separated.

For example: “The earthquake left an immense crack in the main avenue of the city” , “The blow produced a crack in his skull that led to his death” , “Be careful, there is a crack in the table and the items can fall.” glasses" .

Geology is the science that analyzes the cracks that occur in the earth. Experts distinguish between contraction cracks (which are generated when the soil shrinks) and wedge cracks (vertically, produced after rapid freezing of the soil).

Crack in a wall

The presence of cracks is very common in certain buildings and they are seen in the form of generally elongated fissures that, depending on the cause of their appearance, extend over time .

Among the reasons why a crack forms in a wall, although there are a large number, it is possible to say that the most common are damage due to poor quality construction, natural disasters (such as floods, fires and seismic movements) and strong collisions against the building due to vehicle impacts or collapse of a surrounding structure.

Something very important to keep in mind regarding the cause of the formation of a crack is to determine if it is an isolated problem or if it will continue to grow, since in the latter case the solution is not to cover it but to directly attack its origin.

Wall

The appearance of cracks in walls is a common problem.

The repair

Before proceeding to repair cracks in the walls, it is essential to identify them all and observe their depth and size, in addition to trying to understand their origin. Next, you generally go to a specialist in the matter, but this does not mean that the most skilled people who want to learn cannot acquire the necessary skills to solve the problem on their own.

Once each crack is detected, it is important to clean the wall and wait for it to dry and be free of impurities. The materials needed for the job are putty (to be used in the restoration itself) and acrylic paint (to hide the patch ). On the other hand, you should also have a spatula, sandpaper and a clean cloth.

Let's look at the steps to repair each crack:

  1. Apply the putty to the affected area, using the spatula. It is important to make sure you fill each crack well.
  2. Wait for the putty to dry and then sand each repaired part to match it with the wall .
  3. Remove excess dust from the wall with the cloth to ensure that the paint adheres properly to the surface.
  4. Prepare the paint and apply it, to leave the wall like new.

Crack in the skin

A skin crack, on the other hand, is a shallow indentation that can arise in various parts of the body.

These cracks pose dermatological problems that, in certain cases, can be treated with moisturizing products.

Symbolic use of the concept

On a symbolic level, the notion of crack is used to name flaws that threaten the solidity or unity of something. An argument can show cracks when it can be refuted based on logic: “The opposition candidate took advantage of a crack in the minister's speech about security and began to harshly criticize him,” “The police did not find any crack in the suspect's statements.” ” .

A crack can also be a defect in an artistic work, such as a film, a theater performance, a concert, etc. Of course, in this case, the cracks are subjective and depend on who is doing the criticism: “The film has its main crack in its tiring rhythm.”
