Twins

The first thing we are going to do in order to discover the meaning of the term twins is to find out its etymological origin. In this case we can emphasize that it is a word that derives from Latin, exactly it comes from “gemellus”, which in turn comes from “geminus”, which can be translated as “born at the same time” or “double”.

When two animals or two human beings are born in the same birth , especially if they originated from the fertilization of the same egg , they are twins .

TwinsMany times there is confusion between the concept of twins and the notion of fraternal twins . Twins are also siblings born in the same birth, but in this case the word is used specifically if the origin of both is in different eggs . That is to say: twins arise from the same egg and fraternal twins from different eggs.

Identical twins develop with the division of a single zygote (arising from the union of the male gamete -sperm- and the female gamete -ovum-). The so-called fraternal twins , on the other hand, come from two zygotes.

It can be stated, in this way, that identical twins are monozygotic twins . When cell division occurs, two cells are created that are genetically identical, but develop separately. This means that, after birth, individuals who are twins of this type have very similar phenotypes .

We must not overlook the existence of the film “Twins Strike Twice”, a comedy that was released in 1988 under the direction of Ivan Reitman. It tells the story of two twins who were the result of a “scientific project” and who have spent their entire lives separated and without knowing each other until they discover their origin and choose to meet in person. These characters are played by actors Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Precisely within the world of acting we have famous twin brothers. Among these, James and Oliver Phelps stand out, who play the brothers Fred and George Weasley in the “Harry Potter” saga, or Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. They rose to fame as babies and alternatively playing little Michelle Tanner in the television series titled “Full Parents.”

Likewise, it must be established that there are many celebrities who have twins who are not famous like them. Among those are Scarlett Johansson, Vin Diesel, Ashton Kutcher, John Heder, Linda Hamilton, Nicholas Brendon, Kiefer Sutherland, Eva Green, Parker Posey, Shawn Ashmore, Joseph Fiennes...

The idea of twins also has other meanings. The muscles found in the calf are called calves, which allow flexion of the foot and lifting of the heel. The twins actually correspond to the same muscle (the gastrocnemius or gastrocnemius muscle ), which is divided into two parts.

Cufflinks, on the other hand, are pins made up of two pieces linked through a chain or a shank that are used to close the cuff of a shirt; or binocular glasses (similar to binoculars).
