Whip

Horse

The riding crop is used to correct and stimulate the horse.

A whip or flexible rod that is used to stimulate horses is called a riding crop . It is an instrument used to communicate with the animal and to correct it .

Experts say that the whip is not a punishment tool . However, improper use by the rider can cause the riding crop to become an element of abuse .

Features of the riding crop

There are different types of riding crops. It can be an elongated whip or a flexible stick with a strap braid or a piece of leather as a finish.

Today it is common for riding crops to have a fiberglass structure and to be covered in nylon . The handle and tongue, meanwhile, can be made of rubber , polyurethane or leather .

Classification according to type

It is possible to find a wide variety of riding crops since each one is chosen depending on the use that will be given to it. The general riding crop , also called riding crop , has an extension of about 70 centimeters and has a strap for attachment.

The jumping crop , on the other hand, is characterized by its tongue. When the rider hits the horse, a noise similar to that of a clap is generated, causing the horse to pay attention . The jumping crop , meanwhile, is shorter (it can measure about 50 cm), has greater rigidity and has a non-slip grip.

Dressage whips are the longest, and can measure up to 4 meters in certain cases . They frequently end in a thin whip.

Rider

There are different types of riding crops depending on the use.

Function and use of the riding crop

The riding crop is part of the equipment and accessories that a rider uses to interact with his horse. It can be used when the person is riding on the animal or when walking next to it.

The riding crop can be considered an extension of the arm or hand. Through touches, it allows you to stimulate the horse or get its attention.

As we already indicated above, the riding crop should not be used to punish. In fact, the goal is for the horse to respond out of respect and not fear. If the rider uses the riding crop to hit the horse, it will have a negative effect, in addition to causing pain and possible injuries .

a boat

A rowing and sailing boat that was formerly used to carry out exploration is also called fusta. The whip resembled a galley , although it was smaller in size.

It generally had a single mast and a triangular sail. The whip could move at high speed and navigate in shallow waters. By having cannons, it was used for campaigns of conquest and war actions.

Crops were very popular among privateers and pirates . That is why these ships terrified numerous coastal regions and island territories in the 16th and 17th centuries .

It should be noted that, at times, the whip was referred to as a galley . However, the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) defines the galleota as a small two-masted galley.
