Remedies

Pharmacy is the science that allows you to prepare and combine products that aim to maintain or restore health.

Before entering fully into the meaning of the term pharmacy , let's know its etymological origin. In this case, we can state that it is a word that derives from Greek, exactly from “pharmakia”, which, in turn, comes from “pharmakon”, which can be translated as “poison” or even “spell”.

The concept refers to the science dedicated to the preparation and combination of products that serve to maintain or recover health .

The profession that consists of said activity and the place where the professional specialized in these issues works is also called pharmacy: the pharmacist . In this last sense, it must be said that a pharmacy is an establishment dedicated to the preparation, storage and sale of medicines and other medicinal products .

Types of pharmacy

We have to establish that there are different types of pharmacies, understanding this as a place where different products such as medications are sold. Thus, for example, we can talk about the on-call pharmacy , which is one that is open in a city when the others are closed. That is, it remains serving the public at night, on holidays or on Sundays.

Likewise, more and more pharmacies have chosen to create an online store and offer their products through it. These are the so-called online pharmacies that, as a general rule, deliver the items purchased by their customers to their homes. Thus, it provides service to people who, for different circumstances, need medication, but cannot go out to purchase it at their neighborhood pharmacy.

Currently, unlike what happened in previous centuries, the manufacture of medicines corresponds to laboratories of the pharmaceutical industry. Pharmacists, however, work on research into preparations and supply them.

The role of the pharmacist

The expression pharmaceutical care refers to the prevention and resolution of problems linked to medications so that the patient can recover, preserve or improve their quality of life. In a pharmacy that serves the public, the pharmacist must advise people, dispense medications prescribed by doctors and develop pharmacotherapeutic follow-up.

The supply of remedies in a pharmacy is regulated by various regulations. There are over-the-counter medications, which any adult can purchase, and others that are only supplied with a prescription from a medical professional. In addition, pharmacies sell dressings , gauze and other items related to health care and the treatment of injuries and illnesses.

“Pharmacy on call” series

Nor can we forget that one of the most important television series in the history of Spain was titled “Pharmacy on duty.”

It was directed by Antonio Mercero and revolved around a family that ran an establishment of that type and all the customers who passed through it.
