Every day we are exposed to dozens of seemingly inevitable foreign words.

A foreign word is a linguistic loanword , especially when it was not adapted to the language that includes it. It is, therefore, a term that one language takes from another.

Use of foreign words

The use of foreign words is not always advised, as it can make communication difficult. The Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) suggests avoiding its use when there are words in Spanish that are equivalent . “Marketing” is an example of foreign language: according to the recommendation of the RAE , it is preferred not to resort to said foreign language and use, instead, “marketing” .

The use of foreign words presents a series of challenges for communication that we are generally not prepared to overcome . The first and most obvious is the pronunciation. We are talking about words that come from languages ​​that are very different from each other and from ours, which in some cases are based on different writing systems and which have sounds that are impossible to reproduce with our alphabet .

In this framework we must briefly define the concept of phoneme : it is the minimum unit of sound that we can articulate when speaking a certain language. Spanish has 24 phonemes, while English, for example, has 45.
