Tourism

The excursions can be tourist trips.

The etymological origin of the term excursion that concerns us now is found in Latin. What's more, we can determine that it comes from the word excursio , which can be translated as "short trip" and is made up of several clearly identifiable parts: the prefix ex , which is synonymous with "outwards"; the verb currere , which is equivalent to “run”; and the suffix – sion , which means “action.”

An excursion is a visit to a place (a city , a natural area , a museum , etc.) for recreational, study or other reasons. Excursion, which comes from the Latin excursĭo , can be used as a synonym for walk , journey or tour .

For example: “My son visited the science museum on a school trip,” “Right now we are in the city, but in the afternoon we are going to take a trip to the mountains,” “It is an expensive trip, but it is worth it.” "It's worth it since it allows you to discover beautiful landscapes."

The excursion as a tourist trip

The concept has two main uses: on the one hand it is used to name tourist tours , while, on the other hand, excursions can also be part of the pedagogical activities of schools .

In the first case, the departures that are made from the place where a tourist is staying are known as excursions. If a person is spending the night in a hotel in the center of the city of Buenos Aires , the trips they take to other areas (such as Chascomús or Escobar , to name two nearby towns) will be excursions.

Trekking

When a tourist leaves the place where he is staying to visit another place, he takes an excursion.

A pedagogical activity

School excursions, on the other hand, are educational procedures that contribute to the development of children outside the school environment. Students take walks or trips with teachers to learn about different issues in direct contact with the object of study.

As a general rule, this type of school trips have the clear objective that students can see in situ monuments and spaces that they are studying precisely at that moment in the classrooms. In this way, the topic is reinforced and your knowledge about it is improved.

In the case of Spain , excursions of this type are usually aimed at visiting cultural centers such as the Prado Museum in Madrid or monuments such as the Mosque of Córdoba , the Alhambra in Granada or Park Güell in Barcelona .

Precautions on excursions

It is important to keep in mind that the teacher must be prepared to lead an excursion, since he will have many children under his responsibility and care. The usual thing is that he is accompanied by one or more people who help him in the control and supervision tasks.

To all this we should add the fact that for students to participate in the excursion it is essential that they have signed authorization from one of their parents. Likewise, it should not be overlooked that it is recommended, and many teachers do so, that once the excursion has been carried out and once again in the classroom, a review of everything that could be seen in it is carried out.

In this way, students will be able to demonstrate the interest they have shown and even the knowledge they have managed to acquire.
