In order to understand the meaning of the term exabrupto that we are dealing with here, we must first point out its etymological origin. In this case, we can state that it is a word that derives from Latin, exactly from the phrase “ex abrupto”, which can be translated as “in a brusque manner” or “from the rough”. A phrase that is composed of the prefix “ex-”, which means “outward”, and the adjective “abruptus”, which is synonymous with “rough” or “intractable”.

The term outburst refers to something that happens unexpectedly or abruptly . The concept is used to refer to a word , expression or gesture that is rude or inappropriate.

OutburstFor example: “The French actor is often in the news for his outbursts in interviews” , “I apologize for my outburst yesterday, I was very nervous and did not express myself correctly” , “The tennis player's outburst was recorded by TV cameras” .

Outbursts often occur in a tense situation. A person who becomes enraged may lose the usual inhibitory brakes that condition behavior and, in this way, perform an action that seems inappropriate or out of place.

Let us suppose that a journalist asks a member of parliament a question and the latter, upset by the question, replies by insulting him. The insult of the political leader is considered an outburst: it is a lack of respect towards the press worker. Furthermore, a member of parliament is expected to have a decorous public behaviour, with polite treatment towards all citizens. That is why his insult is an outburst.

In a football match, a player who is angry with a teammate may make an obscene gesture towards him. This outburst can lead to various reactions: a fight with the other player, a reprimand from the coach or even some kind of sanction from the referee if the conflict extends and includes other types of aggression.

Outbursts often come as a surprise . Many times, the person who utters an outburst later thinks about it and, more calmly, apologizes.

In the same way, we cannot ignore the existence of an event that bears the name of the word we are now dealing with. We are referring to the Ex Abrupto Festival that has been launched in Catalonia, specifically in Moià, and which is based on the development of cultural activities such as exhibitions, dance and music performances, projections of video-art works...

Likewise, we cannot forget the book “Exabruptos y bastanteezas”, a work published in 1997 and written by José Navarro.

There is also the book “Frases de fútbol” (Football Phrases), written by Miguel Gutiérrez and with a prologue by Vicente del Bosque. It is a work that reviews the phrases, outbursts and outbursts that players and referees have made on the field of play and that have become part of the history of this sport.
