Student is the word that allows us to refer to those who are dedicated to the apprehension , implementation and reading of knowledge about some science , discipline or art . It is usual for a student to be enrolled in a formal study program, although they can also dedicate themselves to the search for knowledge autonomously or informally.
There are various classifications or types of student, which are established based on the teaching model, the time commitment involved in the study, the academic plan in which they are enrolled and other characteristics.
The concept of student
The word student is usually used as a synonym for student . This concept refers to those individuals who learn from other people. The term student comes from the Latin alumnum , which in turn derives from alere ( "to feed" ).
It is said that a subject is a student of the person who educated him and raised him from his childhood. However, you can also be a student of another person younger than you. For this reason, the terms student , student , disciple and even apprentice are usually interchangeable.
Official or free student
The difference between an official student and a free one is that the former receives official education from an educational center recognized by the State and is subjected to exams that validate the knowledge acquired. On the other hand, the free student does not need to respect certain rules to continue with his learning. It must be recognized, in any case, the existence of different variants in these classifications, since a student may not attend classes regularly but take formal subjects remotely, for example.
This brings us to a factor that is not determining whether someone is considered a student: age. Although it is true that this term is traditionally associated with the smallest and young people, there is no requirement or limit regarding the age of the student, but it can be any person who dedicates themselves to acquiring knowledge with a certain assiduity and perseverance.
Learning today
The world has changed a lot in recent decades, and one of the aspects that has advanced the most is precisely the relationship with knowledge , with information in general. Thanks to the spread of the Internet, anyone with access to an electronic device can study self-taught, through books in digital format, educational videos, online exams and contact with other people, both students and teachers. Although the action of learning was never limited to the walls of an official institution, and the proof is the countless women who taught themselves when society prohibited it, today everything is considerably easier.
But we must not confuse the devotion with which a true student dedicates hours of his day to learning his favorite topics with the spontaneity of someone who "pecks" data that he comes across by chance in his daily life. Neither of the two attitudes is good or bad, but rather they represent different profiles, and only one of them is that of the student, while the other could be described as "curious."
As each person can approach their studies in a different way, it is not correct to define the student profile in a rigid way. There are those who create a solid structure based on specific schedules, reading sources, review tactics, and more, which they stick to steadfastly until they reach their goals. There are also those who adopt a less defined strategy, which is formed at each step and can change without this negatively affecting their path. Between these two there are perhaps infinite forms, all valid if those who support them consider them so.
