Narrow

The first step we are going to take is to know the etymological origin of the narrow term that concerns us now. In this case, we can establish that it is a word that derives from Latin, exactly from “strictus”, which can be translated as “tied tightly” or “girded”.

As an adjective , it can be used to describe something that is not very wide . For example: “A truck got stuck in a narrow tunnel” , “We must go up to the lighthouse one at a time since the staircase is very narrow” , “The hallway is narrow, I didn't think we could put the chair there” .

NarrowAnything that is tight or tight , whether physically or in a symbolic sense, is also designated as narrow: “That tight dress will help you show off your figure,” “The result of the election was very narrow: the official candidate he imposed by less than a thousand votes” , “Why is the uniform so tight? "I don't feel comfortable with him."

The idea of close, on the other hand, is used to refer to a very close relationship : “I have a close bond with Sofía because we went to school together,” “In my youth I maintained a close friendship with him, but then life gave us “It was growing apart,” “My mother had a close relationship with Marta.”

The closed -minded individual may be described as narrow: “I don't understand how you are that narrow! Women can play football without that being a problem” , “When raising my children I am quite narrow, I don't like new trends” , “Grandpa grew up in another era, that's why he is a narrow man” .

As a noun , narrow is a narrow passage that exists between two territories, separated by connecting bodies of water. Also called channels , straits are usually important to facilitate navigation.

The Strait of Magellan , to mention one of these passes, is located at the southern end of the American continent and links the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic Ocean . The Strait of Gibraltar , on the other hand, separates Africa from Europe and links the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean .

In the same way, it can also be indicated that it represents the separation between the African and Eurasian tectonic plates. It has a maximum depth of 900 meters, the narrowest point separates the two aforementioned continents by only 14.4 kilometers of ocean and it has become a very important place for fauna and cetaceans that migrate between the two countries or that migrate. They move between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea respectively.

Historically it has played an essential role and the Strait of Gibraltar has been from the starting point for the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula to one of the places of confrontation during the Second World War, passing through a key scene of the well-known Battle of Trafalgar.

Nowadays it is regularly in the news not only because it is an area that many boats of African immigrants use to reach Africa but also because it is used by drug traffickers to try to get their goods to Spain and Europe.

In the same way, we cannot ignore the existence of other straits such as the Bosphorus Strait, the Hormuz Strait and even the Panama Strait, for example.
