Definition of

Shin

Leg

The shin is the area opposite the calf.

The Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) recognizes two meanings of shin . The term is formed with the noun espina and the suffix -illa .

Thorn can refer to a splinter of wood, a spike from a plant or a bone piece from a fish, for example. The affix -illa , meanwhile, usually functions as a diminutive. Taking these definitions into account, it can be understood that a pimple is a small thorn, although the RAE dictionary includes other types of more specific meanings.

a part of the leg

The area on the leg that is opposite to the calf is called the shin. The shin, therefore, is the front sector of the shin .

Before moving forward, it is important to remember that legs are the lower extremities of human beings. The main bone of the leg, also referred to as the tibia , which develops between the knee and the ankle, is called the shin .

The back or rear part of the leg is known as the calf . On the other side (that is, in the anterior part), is the shin.

Shin pains

When the bone tissue, tendons or muscles found in the shin become inflamed , pain occurs that can vary in intensity. This discomfort is common in dancers and athletes due to overloading of the area due to training or excessive activity.

There are, however, several factors that can cause the appearance of shin pain . Not wearing appropriate footwear, performing physical activity on a hard surface or having flat feet all cause discomfort.

When pain occurs, it is advisable to consult a doctor : a health professional is the one who must make the diagnosis and indicate the corresponding treatment. At a general level, it can be said that the application of ice to the shins, the development of stretching exercises and the reduction of physical activity usually help to minimize the problems.

Grain

A blackhead can be a pimple or mud.

a mud

The second meaning of blackhead that the RAE accepts refers to a mud, pimple or comedone that occurs when the duct in charge of the secretion of the sebaceous glands becomes clogged . In this situation, a pimple appears on the skin , which is a reddish bump.

Sebaceous glands connect to hair follicles, which is where hair grows. If excess sebum (fat) is generated and dead cells accumulate, the follicles become clogged. Bacteria can also settle there.

The appearance of pimples and other skin disorders is usually due to hormonal changes , which encourage the production of sebum due to the enlargement of the sebaceous glands. Some foods and medications and stress also contribute to the condition.

Blackhead, a leguminous plant

Blackhead, finally, is one of the colloquial names of the plant known scientifically as Ononis spinosa . Gatuña , gatuna , asnillo , peina de asso and balomaga are other common names.

Blackhead is a woody legume that usually has thorns . It has dark green leaves, pink flowers and pod-shaped fruit.
