Show

Concert

A concert is a show.

A show is a public performance or entertainment that takes place in a space where the public gathers to witness it. Typically, shows (from the Latin spectacŭlum ) take place in theaters , stadiums , circuses or similar venues.

For example: "Yesterday I went to see a magic show that fascinated me," "Marcos invited me to a show at the downtown theater," "I want to vacation in a city that has a good range of shows," "My son, "Who is an actor, was hired for a traveling show that will tour several neighborhoods."

Types of shows

The characteristics of the shows are very varied. Theatrical performances, concerts , acrobatics and dance are some of the disciplines that can constitute a show.

However, there are many other activities that are also considered spectacles and that bring together a multitude of people to enjoy them. Specifically, these are some of the most significant:

  • Musical . Dance, theater and music become the three main elements that shape this type of entertainment, which in recent years has achieved significant growth thanks to high-quality works such as "Les Miserables" or "The Lion King" . In the United States , for example, the Broadway area in Manhattan is considered one of the most significant when it comes to enjoying the best shows of this type.
  • Movie . The screening of a film is also considered one of the most interesting and favorite alternatives for the public when it comes to entertainment.
  • Television program . Late-night and reality shows are two of the small screen spaces that have become great shows that can be enjoyed from the sofa at home.

Sports matches are also considered spectacles today. In this sense, those that are most attributed to this adjective are football and basketball competitions, as the players manage to entertain the public with their mastery with the ball, thus giving rise to truly unrepeatable plays and moments.

Likewise, it must also be emphasized that for some people bullfights would also be classified as spectacles, but for others they are not because they consider them a murderous act.

Sport

Sports competitions are very attractive spectacles.

The stage

The shows, on the other hand, usually take place on a stage (spaces with an elevated platform so that people can see the artists more easily), although this is not an essential condition.

Some shows are free and others invite the public to contribute any amount they wish, although most shows stipulate a fixed entry fee.

Other uses of the term spectacle

The concept is also used to name the set of professional activities and protagonists linked to this public entertainment . In this sense we can speak in a generic sense of the "show business" or the "entertainment industry" .

Spectacle, finally, is the action that causes scandal, controversy or strangeness : "A man gave a spectacle by protesting naked before the municipal authorities," "The comedian's intervention in the debate was a true spectacle that aroused laughter among those present."
