Definition of

Squad

The etymological origin of the term square that concerns us now is found in Latin. In this sense, we can state that it is a word that is the result of the sum of two lexical components of said language:

-The prefix «ex-«, which can be translated as «outwards».

-The verb «quadrare», which is synonymous with «making square».

The first meaning of square mentioned in the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) refers to the triangular- shaped template used to outline. This element, which can be made of plastic, wood or other materials, is an isosceles right triangle that is very useful in the field of technical drawing.

SquadTaking this definition into account, we can affirm that a square has three sides and three angles, since it is a triangle . As it is specifically a right triangle , one of its angles measures 90º . On the other hand, since it is an isosceles triangle , we know that two of its angles and two of its sides are equal. Since an isosceles right triangle has an angle of 90º , the other two measure 45º (since they are equal).

Due to their characteristics, the squares allow you to draw straight lines inclined at 45º and perpendicular lines . In addition, they are often used in conjunction with rules to facilitate the creation of different figures.

The idea of a squad, on the other hand, is used to name a group (a group of people who meet for a certain purpose). A military squad , for example, is a minor unit composed of no more than twelve soldiers, whose leader is a corporal who is usually known as a squad commander.

In that sense we can highlight the existence of the so-called squad boys or mossos d'esquadra, which is what the members of the autonomous police of Catalonia are called. It is therefore a police force that has its origins in the 18th century, which was when it was created under the reign of Philip V with two fundamental objectives: to eliminate the strongholds that were in favor of Archduke Charles and to contain what was the French advance. in Spanish territory.

It was already in the decade of the 30s of the 19th century when the mossos became dependent on the Generalitat of Catalonia, although in 1939 they were suppressed by decision of the dictator Francisco Franco until 1950 in which they returned to exist as a military discipline body. .

A naval squadron is the unit formed by various warships for the development of tactical operations. It can have warships, submarines and other water vehicles.

In the field of sport , finally, a team or group of athletes is usually called a squad: "A Belgian squad wants to hire the Paraguayan soccer player," "The Cuban boxing squad won five medals in the Pan American Games."

In the same way, within the football field the term in question is used within a specific expression. Exactly, it is said "to score a goal through the top corner" to refer to the fact that a player has introduced the ball into the goalkeeper's net, making it slip through one of the upper corners of the goal.
