Definition of

Include

The notion of encompassing has its origin in an adverbial phrase: en globo . A balloon , on the other hand, is a sphere or an object made of a flexible material that contains something inside.

Precisely for this reason, in many countries around the world the verb englobar is used to refer to the action of inflating a balloon. Hence, mention is even made of ballooning machines, which are responsible for inflating balloons quickly for a party, fair or similar celebration.

IncludeThe concept of encompassing , in this context, is used to refer to the act of gathering, containing or enclosing different elements in the same set or place . For example: “To analyze the country's economy as a whole we must include the statistics of the various regional economies that are part of the national territory” , “By including the salary, prizes and bonuses, we can see that this footballer has income that exceed 800,000 pesos per month,” “We propose to encompass all activities linked to the graphic design business in the same company.”

Among the synonyms of encompass we find include, understand, encompass, envelop and even enclose. On the contrary, its antonyms include dividing, removing, separating, extracting or excluding, for example.

Encompassing implies grouping together certain units that have different characteristics from each other or that, in the first instance, remain isolated or separated. The meaning of the action is developed by analogy to the characteristics of a balloon: the various units remain inside a receptacle, like the gas that accumulates inside the balloon.

Suppose that, in a certain province, several municipalities celebrated local festivals linked to agriculture : the Municipal Corn Festival , the Municipal Sunflower Festival , the Municipal Soy Festival , etc. The authorities of these localities decide to unite and encompass all the events in one great provincial festival: the Provincial Festival of Agricultural Production . This means that activities that were carried out separately in different places are now carried out within the framework of the same meeting.

In the same way, encompass is a term that is used in very different areas, as would be the case, for example, in sports. Thus, it is very common for it to be used to mention the action that is required to be carried out in a specific discipline to group the players into the categories that correspond to them.

Depending on the sporting discipline in question, athletes may be included based on criteria such as age, weight, sex... A good example of this is football where, based on the criterion of how old they are, , players are included in different categories of the same club so that they can participate in the corresponding competitions that exist.

Likewise, we cannot forget that there is also the Engloba Association, which is from Almería and whose main objective is to improve care and development in certain areas such as childhood, youth or the elderly.
