Nursing is the profession of someone who is dedicated to the care and attention of the sick and injured under clinical criteria.
Nursing is a term that refers to different concepts related to health and health systems . An infirmary is a unit or place for the sick or injured . For example: “We are going to have to take you to the infirmary to treat that wound,” “My son went to the infirmary after the game because his left knee hurt.”
Nursing is also the profession of the person who is responsible for the care and attention of the injured and the sick under clinical criteria: “I am going to study nursing,” “I need to hire a nursing expert to help me take care of my grandmother.” ” . The group of patients from a certain place or time, or affected by the same disease , is also called nursing.
Nursing as a health science
It could be said, at a general level, that nursing is the science that is dedicated to caring for the health of human beings. It is, therefore, part of the health sciences group.
There are, according to each country, various specializations linked to nursing. The nurse supervisor , for example, is one trained to supervise the work and environment of the professionals in a unit under their charge. Nursing assistants , on the other hand, are in charge of the most basic care, linked to food and hygiene .
A nursing professional can carry out various practices and tasks.
Origin and development of the profession
Nursing has its origins in Greek times. In such a way that the first examples of this can be found during the times in which philosophers and writers of the stature of Socrates lived.
It should be noted that nursing is known as the set of studies required to obtain the degree and practice the profession: “Constanza completed nursing and will join the hospital starting next summer.”
Thus, for example, in Spain there are basically two professional groups within this category. Thus, on the one hand, there are the so-called Nursing graduates , who are those who have the corresponding university degree. And on the other hand, there are the technicians in Auxiliary Nursing Care , who are those who have an average non-university degree and who are basically in charge of carrying out the hygiene and feeding tasks of the patients as well as the administration of medication and taking vital signs.
Currently there are various organizations that oversee the profession of men and women who work in the area of nursing. Thus, for example, on Spanish soil we find the General Counselor of Nursing and the various Nursing unions that exist at a general level throughout the country ( SATSE ), or in each and every one of the respective autonomous communities that shape to said nation.
