Pack merchandise

When packaging merchandise, therefore, it is conveniently arranged for transport . Generally this involves wrapping it to cushion any impacts and placing it in a box or similar receptacle.

In certain cases, the packaging task must also contemplate the inclusion of certain information about the merchandise : its composition, storage requirements and other data.

Tips

Here are some tips to properly package fragile products so that they reach their destination in good condition:

  • Use packaging materials appropriate for the fragility of the product. Typically, strong cardboard boxes, air bubbles, foam, and kraft paper are common options for protecting fragile items;
  • place an additional layer of cushioning material at the bottom of the box to absorb shock and vibration during transportation;
  • add cardboard or foam reinforcements to the corners of the product before wrapping it in bubble wrap or foam;
  • When packing several fragile products in the same box, make sure to separate them properly with protective material to prevent them from colliding with each other;
  • place “Fragile” labels in visible locations on the box to alert shippers and handlers to the sensitive nature of the contents;
  • Use boxes that are strong enough to withstand the weight and conditions of transportation. Avoid boxes that are damaged or weakened;
  • put padding material (paper, foam, air bags) in the empty spaces inside the box to prevent the product from moving during transportation;
  • For especially fragile items, consider using a double box technique. Place the product box inside a larger one and fill the space between the two with cushioning material.

Packaging functions

Packaging is the wrapping or covering used to package a product. This packaging contains it temporarily to allow it to be handled, stored and transported without risks . So that the object in question can be used once it reaches its destination , it is necessary to remove the packaging.

Packaging fulfills several essential functions in the logistics, distribution and protection of products, such as the following:

  • Protection : Protects products during transportation, storage and handling. This means minimizing damage caused by shock, vibration, humidity, temperature changes and other risks;
  • containment and security : keeps products contained and prevents their dispersion or spillage, which is especially important for liquid, granular or fragile products. It may also include security features to prevent unauthorized tampering or theft;
  • Identification and labeling – Provides space for labels, barcodes, and other important information such as instructions for use, expiration dates, and warnings. This makes it easier to identify the product and track it throughout the supply chain;
  • communication and marketing : it is a visual and brand communication tool. Attractive designs and clear information can influence consumer purchasing decisions and communicate brand values;
  • sustainability : has an impact on environmental sustainability. Eco-friendly and recyclable packaging designs help reduce waste and minimize impact on the environment.

Other meanings

The RAE also recognizes uses of packaging linked to navigation and fishing . The action of packing can consist of hitting the surface of the water or the bottom of a boat with the aim of scaring away the fish. In addition, it can be packaged so that the fish enter a codend (net bag) or become entangled.

On the other hand, if the etymological root emballer , from the French language, is taken into account, packing implies making something reach great speed . Symbolically, the notion refers to letting oneself be carried away by enthusiasm or passion .
