Teaching

Teacher

A teacher imparts knowledge.

A teacher is that individual who is dedicated to teaching or who carries out actions related to teaching . The word derives from the Latin term docens , which in turn comes from docēre (translated into Spanish as “teach” ).

In everyday language, the concept is often used as a synonym for professor or teacher , although its meaning is not exactly the same.

Differences between the teacher, the professor and the teacher

The teacher or professor is the person who imparts knowledge framed in a specific science or art . However, the teacher is one who is recognized as having extraordinary ability in the subject he instructs.

In this way, a teacher may not be a teacher (and vice versa). Beyond this distinction, everyone must possess pedagogical skills to become effective agents in the learning process .

Teaching as a profession and vocation

The teacher, in short, recognizes that teaching is his dedication and fundamental profession . Therefore, their skills consist of teaching in the best possible way to those who assume the role of learner, regardless of their age or condition.

An example of the use and meaning of the term teacher could be the following: “Sara was praised by her classmates as a magnificent teacher because she knew perfectly how to teach Geography and History classes to get her students interested in the subject.”

Education

Teachers can work at different educational levels.

It should be noted that there are teachers at all levels ( primary , secondary , tertiary and university ), who can carry out their work in public education or in private institutions. A teacher can work on his or her own account (as a free professional) or under some form of contract with his or her employer.

In addition to establishing that there are teachers at various levels, it must also be emphasized that they can also be classified according to the subjects or subjects they teach in the educational centers in which they work. In this way, we can find teachers specialized in Mathematics, Language and Literature, Geography and History, Biology or Physics and Chemistry.

Teaching, understood as teaching, is an activity carried out through the interaction of three elements: the teacher , his students and the object of knowledge . A theoretical and idealistic conception assumes that the teacher has the obligation to transmit his knowledge to the student through various resources, elements, techniques and support tools. Thus, the teacher assumes the role of source of knowledge and the student becomes an unlimited recipient of all that knowledge. In recent times, this process is considered more dynamic and reciprocal.

The role of the teacher in cinema

The important role that the teacher plays in the life of any person, as it is the one that provides them with a series of values and knowledge important for their professional and personal career, has been reflected not only in various books or television series but also in a wide range of films.

Among the most significant, we should highlight, for example, the film “Dead Poets Society” that was released worldwide in 1989 and stars Robbie Williams. It tells how a teacher who works in a strict English school for boys manages to teach his students how important it is to fight to achieve their dreams.

Likewise, other of the most important film productions about the figure of teachers are “Chain of Favors” (2000), where a teacher tries to instill in his students to help others in order to change the world, or “Mona's Smile Lisa” (2003) which tells how a teacher, in the 1950s, tries to make her students see that women can do many more things than being a wife or mother.
