Dissimilar

Different

What is dissimilar is unequal.

The etymological origin of the term dissimilar is found in Latin. Exactly we can establish that it derives from the word dissimilis , which means "that is not equal" and that it is the result of the union of two components:

-The prefix dis- , which can be translated as “separation”.

-The word similis , which is synonymous with “equal”.

Concept of dissimilar

Dissimilar refers to that which is different or unequal . For example: “Economic growth was dissimilar between the various sectors” , “We have dissimilar views of reality, but that does not mean that we cannot debate” , “The quality of the shows was so dissimilar that it is impossible to draw a conclusion about the festival" .

Among the synonyms of dissimilar are dissimilar , dissimilar or unequal , while among the antonyms similar or equal stands out.

Uneven

To determine that something is dissimilar, you must first make a comparison.

The need to compare

For something to be classified as dissimilar, it is first necessary to make a comparison . From this comparison, you can see if the elements are similar or dissimilar. For the action to make sense, issues or objects of the same nature must be compared.

Returning to the first of the examples mentioned above, it can be said that the growth of the economy is dissimilar by sector when, when comparing the figures, differences arise. If the agricultural sector grew by 28% , the industrial sector by 12% and the services sector by 0.6% , it was a dissimilar growth.

Dissimilar looks

Dissimilar views on a topic, on the other hand, refer to different perspectives or points of view . Suppose that, before an important soccer match, three journalists analyze the possible tactics that one of the teams can implement. For one of the journalists, the team should use five defenders and play to counterattack. For another, the ideal would be to position four defenders and try to make the game happen in the middle of the field. The third considers that the best thing is to go out and play with only three men in defense and attack all the time. The three analysts, in short, have different views on what is convenient for the team in question.

In addition to sports, there are also dissimilar views within the world of politics, for example. Thus, what usually happens is that when faced with the same topic or issue, different formations and parties have a different vision of it and even ways of acting on it.

This happens, for example, in Spain regarding homosexual marriage. Thus, there are left-wing parties, such as Unidas Podemos or PSOE that are in favor of it, the latter party being the one that managed to approve it by law during one of its legislatures. However, there are others who are against it. This would be the case of the PP , which even resorted to the courts to avoid it, or of VOX , which shows an ideology reluctant to homosexuality in general.

And as this issue we also have to talk about dissimilar views in politics on pensions, public services, taxes, immigration, equality between men and women and even on employment contracts.
