Definition of

Adjacent

Neighbors

Two buildings are adjacent when one is next to the other.

Before entering fully into discovering the meaning of the term at hand, we have to proceed to discover the etymological origin of adjoining . In this case we can state that it derives from Latin, since it is the result of the sum of three clearly delimited components of said language:

-The prefix “con-”, which is synonymous with “together”.

-The verb “limitare”, which can be translated as “put limits”.

-The suffix “-nte”, which is used to indicate “agent”.

Hence, the term adjoining can be defined as “that which limits lands from each other.”

adjacent adjective

The adjective adjoining is used to describe that which adjoins something : that is, it is about two elements that border each other (they are contiguous). The concept is usually used with respect to land, farms or buildings.

For example: “The authorities closed the works since they consider that they could affect the neighboring buildings” , “The neighboring territory does not depend on this municipality, but on the neighbor” , “The explosion caused serious damage to the adjacent building” .

Argentina and Chile are neighboring countries since they share boundaries.

The concept in law

In the field of law , the owner of an adjacent property and the municipalities that are bordering each other are called adjoining.

The concept of withdrawal of adjoining property , for its part, refers to the withdrawal that the law allows, in certain circumstances, to the neighboring owners of a sold property with the objective of preventing crops from being divided excessively. It should be noted that a retraction is the right to keep something that was sold to another person for a certain price.

One of the most common problems that exist in society refers to conflicts between adjacent neighbors. Lawyers specialized in this area have published different publications in which they explain that some of the most common problems among those mentioned are the noise generated by pets, not respecting quiet times, party walls, the squatter phenomenon, not using properly form common spaces and even situations such as the so-called Diogenes Syndrome.

Adjacent in colloquial language

It can be said, beyond technicalities, that two things are coterminous when they are located next to each other . Take the case of the Catalan city of Barcelona . This town is divided into several districts. Among them we can name Ciutat Vella (or Old City , in Spanish) and Eixample ( Ensanche ). These two Barcelona districts are adjacent: they share boundaries. It is possible to go from Ciutat Vella to Eixample and vice versa without crossing any other district, since both are together.

Argentina y Chili, por otra parte, son countries colindantes. Existe una extensa frontera que separa a ambas naciones, las cuales son limítrofes.

A jewelry brand

In addition to all of the above, we cannot overlook the fact that Colindante is also what it is called a jewelry brand from Madrid that defines itself under the terms of “sustainable modernity and tradition.”

In addition to manufacturing jewelry items, it is also taking important steps in terms of decoration and interior design by making ceramic and textile objects.
