Basket

Before delving fully into the meaning of the term basket, we have to proceed to discover its etymological origin. In this case, we can state that it is a word that derives from Latin, exactly from "cista", which was the name given to a basket that was made of wicker.

However, we cannot ignore that this Latin word, in turn, derives from Greek. Specifically, it comes from "kisté", which was the name given to a "basket".

The term basket refers to a basket that is made of some type of wood or flexible fiber . These containers are used to store or transport different things, from food to clothing .

BasketFor example: «Can I have the basket of apples, please? "I'm going to start preparing the cake," "The laundry basket is full," "We're moving next week: I already have all the dishes stored in baskets."

Baskets can be woven from reed , wicker or another plant. They generally have a handle in the center so that people can manipulate them easily. It is possible to differentiate between closed baskets and open baskets, according to their structure.

There are also baskets made of plastic . These baskets are common in supermarkets and other stores for transporting products , either between different sections of the place or from the gondola (the display) to the checkout.

In rural areas, it is common for baskets to be used to harvest ripe fruits . The collectors go through the trees or plants, extract the fruits and place them in the baskets they carry.

However, nowadays there are many uses that can be given to the basket. Thus, for example, we come across the dirty clothes basket which, as its name indicates, is the one used in homes to put clothes that are stained or sweaty. In this way, they will then be taken to the washing machine and put in a perfect state of cleanliness.

There are also the so-called beach baskets that are used to, as their name makes clear, go to the beach and enjoy a day there sunbathing and bathing in the sea. In this type of basket you can carry everything from towels and suntan lotion to water or different foods to eat.

According to the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ), the notion of basket can also refer to a concave paddle made of interwoven strips, which is used in ball games. Cesta is also a carriage that can seat four passengers, which has a wicker box with curtains and an awning.

In some countries, finally, the hoop or basket is called a basket : the structure attached to a board in which basketball players must introduce the ball (ball) to score points. Precisely for this reason, when the players manage to put the ball into the basket, it is said that they have "made a basket."
